Can I Unlock iPhone 4 After Jailbreaking with Redsn0w 0.9.6RC16?

Hi, my contract with AT&T for my iPhone 4 is about to expire. But before it ends, I am planning to jailbreak and unlock it so that I will be able to use a T-Mobile SIM card. A friend told me to jailbreak my iPhone using Redsn0w 0.9.6RC16 and then unlock it with Ultrasn0w afterwards. However, some blogs and websites are suggesting that Redsn0w is not for unlockers. Now I am very confused, what tool should I use to jailbreak and unlock my iPhone?

Hello Gerry, no, you will not be able to unlock your iPhone using Ultrasn0w after jailbreaking it with Redsn0w 0.9.6RC16 as this jailbreak tool will upgrade the baseband of your iPhone. You should note that all iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS users who rely on Ultrasn0w carrier unlocking should STAY AWAY from Redsn0w, JailbreakMe, Greenpois0n, and stock IPSW file. All iPhone users who want to unlock (who have unlockable baseband) should use either PwnageTool (for Mac OS X users) or Sn0wbreeze (for Windows users). Also, as I have mentioned above, you must have an unlockable baseband in order to unlock using the latest version of Ultrasn0w software unlock. So far, iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS basebands supported by Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 are the following:
  • 04.26.08
  • 05.11.07
  • 05.12.01
  • 05.13.04
  • 01.59.00
  • 06.15.00

If your baseband is not present in the supported list, then there’s no software unlock for you. Anyways, you can check this blog post to download and to know more about Sn0wbreeze 2.7.1 and PwnageTool Then follow this step by step guide on how to unlock iPhone using Ultrasn0w 1.2.3.

If your iPhone is NOT running unlockable baseband, you will still be able to unlock it using Gevey SIM Pro.
