Jailbreak & Update iPhone 3GS From iOS 4.0.2 to iOS 4.3.3

Hi guys, I have an old iPhone 3GS running on iOS 4.0.2, which was jailbroken using Limera1n. Now, what I want to do is update it to iOS 4.3.3 and then jailbreak it. Can I just update and jailbreak, or do I need to do something before upgrading? Thanks.

Hello Leo, sad to say, but there’s no way you can update our iPhone 3GS to iOS 4.3.3 due to the fact that the Cupertino, California-based Apple already stopped signing this firmware in order to prevent iOS device users (especially iPad 2 users) from jailbreaking their device using JailbreakMe 3.0. The latest iPhone firmware available at the moment is iOS 4.3.5. Meaning, if you restore your iPhone to iTunes you will update the firmware of your iPhone to iOS 4.3.5. And you should be note that this version of iPhone firmware is not supported by Stefan Esser’s untethered jailbreak exploit which was utilized on Redsn0w, PwnageTool, and Sn0wbreeze jailbreak tools to jailbreak iOS 4.3.1 up to iOS 4.3.3 firmware. Anyway, before you jailbreak, you should sync and backup your device to iTunes.

So, if you still want to update your iPhone, then you can restore your device to iTunes. You can check this blog post to know more about iOS 4.3.5 firmware. Then once completely restored on iOS 4.3.5, you can use Redsn0w 0.9.8b4 to jailbreak iOS 4.3.5. The step by step guide on how to use Redsn0w 0.9.8b4 can be found here.
