How to Unlock iPhone 3GS Without Losing GPS Functionality?

Hello Jaxov, I am currently using a locked iPhone 3GS with baseband 05.14.02. I know that I will be able to unlock it using Ultrasn0w by updating its baseband to 06.15.00. However I don’t want to lose my GPS function as my jobs depend on it. Anyway, is there an available option to unlock my 3GS from O2 without losing GPS? Or can I install a standalone GPS after unlocking my iPhone using Ultrasn0w? How about Gevey SIM?

Hello Agee, you are right, iPhone 3GS with baseband 5.14.02 is unlockable by updating its baseband to 6.15.00 (iPad’s iOS 3.2.2 IPSW) and majority of iPhone 3GS who unlock their devices lose the GPS functionality of their device. However, there were users reporting that they did not lose their GPS after unlocking it using Ultrasn0w 1.2.3, but it is a very rare case and I wouldn’t recommend you to gamble for it. Installing a standalone GPS app via iTunes will not work as well due to the fact that the app depends on the GPS capability of the device.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to unlock your iPhone 3GS using Gevey SIM Pro for the reason that iPhone 3GS does not use micro-SIM card.

But the good news is that, since your iPhone 3GS is locked to O2, you can request from your network service provider to unlock your iPhone 3GS for you. O2 people have capability to unlock your iPhone 3GS without jailbreaking or installing Ultrasn0w software carrier unlocking tool into your device. Therefore, you will be able to use any other SIM card of your choice, and best of all, you will not lose the GPS functionality of your device. To do that, all you have to do is fill up this O2 unlocking form and wait for their confirmation.
