How to Save SHSH Blobs for iPhone 4S Running iOS 5?

Hello people, I am a new iPhone 4S user and currently figuring out how to jailbreak my new iPhone. I was told that I should get my SHSH blobs saved before jailbreaking it so that I could revert it back to the previous firmware. Well, my concern is what tool should I use to save my iPhone 4S SHSH blobs – iFaith or TinyUmbrella? Thanks.

Hello Terry, sad to say but there’s no way to jailbreak iPhone 4S at the moment. This is because of the fact that this iOS device uses a different hardware – the A5 dual-core chip that was used on iPad 2 as well. So, should you backup your SHSH blobs even there’s no way to jailbreak your iPhone? YES, you should backup your SHSH blobs even though there’s no jailbreak yet.

You can only use TinyUmbrella to backup the SHSH blobs of your device. Semaphore has just released a new version of TinyUmbrella (version 5.01.00) in order to enable iOS device users to backup their blobs on iOS 5.0.1 and iOS 5. However, you should be noted that there’s no way you can downgrade your iPhone 4S back to iOS 5 once you have updated to iOS 5.0.1 or newer version of iPhone firmware. Anyway, you can download the new TinyUmbrella from here if you were on Mac OS X or using this link if you are on Windows. And the step-by-step guide on how to use this tool is posted here. Good luck.

Note: Please STAY AWAY from iOS 5.0.1 software update as much as possible. This new firmware will patch the exploit on iOS 5 that is currently being used to developed untethered jailbreak.
