How to Fix Not a Valid IPSW Error on Verizon iPhone 4 4.2.8 Using Sn0wbreeze 2.7.1?

Just got my new Verizon iPhone 4 running on iOS 4.2.8 and I am trying to jailbreak it on my Windows using Sn0wbreeze but I’m getting a some kind of error and it throwing “Not a Valid IPSW”. I have downloaded 10 different files and get the same error. Can’t get past it and it’s really frustrating. Please help me to fix it. Thanks.

Hello Jimmy, Sn0wbreeze 2.7.1 is throwing Not a Valid IPSW error because you were trying a corrupt or an IPSW file which is not supported by the jailbreak tool (this error also occurs with PwnageTool). What web browser do you use when downloading the stock iOS 4.2.8 IPSW file for your iPhone 4? I would recommend you to use Internet Explorer (the latest version if possible) as Mozilla Firefox and Chrome is saving the file in different format.

Try to re-download the stock iOS 4.2.8 for your Verizon CDMA iPhone 4 from here as well as download the latest version of Sn0wbreeze using this link and rejailbreak your iPhone 4. You can follow this tutorial on how to untethered jailbreak iOS 4.2.8 on Verizon iPhone 4 using Sn0wbreeze 2.7.1. Make sure that you were using Internet Explorer in downloading the IPSW file. If this doesn’t work and you’re still getting error, then you can visit Sn0wbreeze official website to check if your device as well as the firmware version of your device is supported by the latest version of Sn0wbreeze. In your case, you should see iPhone3,3 = iPhone 4 CDMA model. If you have the correct iPhone firmware and Sn0wbreeze still throws "Invalid IPSW" error then your IPSW must be corrupt. You could download Marxio File Checksum Verifier from here and check MD5 and SHA1 checksums of the downloaded IPSW. You could also use TheiPhoneWiki website to check the correct checksum values of your IPSW file. If you get different checksum values form the downloaded IPSW file into the firmware file listed on the website then re-download the fresh IPSW for your iPhone from this website or from iClarified. That’s it! Hope this helps.
