GreenPois0n RC5 Can’t Detect iPhone 3G in DFU Mode

Hi guys, I am using an old iPhone 3G which I am trying to jailbreak using GreenPois0n RC5. I have already restored my iPhone to iOS 4.2.1 and installed the latest version of iTunes. So I connected my iPhone to my computer and followed the on-screen instructions very carefully. However, it seems like GreenPois0n is not detecting my iPhone in DFU mode. I am pretty much sure that I have put my iPhone to DFU mode as I hearing it plug into my computer when I complete the DFU procedure. I am using Windows 7. If any help on this issue would be awesome! Thanks.

Hello Vowen, does iTunes detect your iPhone in recovery mode if you were trying to put your iPhone in DFU mode? If not, the try to restore your iPhone to iOS 4.2.1 again and put your iPhone in DFU mode and see if iTunes will be able to detect it. If iTunes still not picking your iPhone 3G in DFU mode / recovery, then uninstall the application on your computer and download iTunes 10.4.1 from here. Just simple install iTunes and reboot your computer, then connect your iPhone to your computer and put it in DFU mode again. Using a different connector and USB might also help you to bypass this error.

There are also possibilities that you have downloaded a corrupted GreenPois0n for your Windows. Also, you should use GreenPois0n RC6 instead of the RC5 version of the jailbreak tool.

Anyway, you can check this blog post to download and know more about the RC6.1 version of the GreenPois0n jailbreak tool to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1. Just to make sure, you can follow this guide (Mac OS X users can refer on this tutorial) on how to use GreenPois0n to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1 on iPhone 3G.
