Cydia & SemiTether Icons Missing After Tethered Boot on iOS 5

Hello to all, I have a jailbroken iPhone 4 running iOS 5 custom firmware. After jailbreaking, I downloaded SemiTether app and reboot my device. Then after rebooting, I did a tethered boot using Sn0wbreeze’s iBooty tool. However, after testing few apps, I noticed that both Cydia and SemiTether app were missing. I performed tethered boot for several times but no avail. Is there any fix for this?

Hello Derrick, this error is expected due to the fact that the new SemiTether jailbreak app is still in the early stage of beta testing. Hopefully the developer of the app and folks over at Cydia has come up with a much improved SemiTether that will work accordingly with the upcoming iOS 5.0.1 firmware.

Anyway, in your case, I would recommend you to rejailbreak and restore your iPhone to custom iOS 5 firmware which was created using the new Redsn0w 0.9.9b8. You can check this blog post to download and know more about Redsn0w 0.9.9b8. However, you should be noted that the ability to create custom firmware is available for Mac OS X users only. Nevertheless, you can refer on the tutorial posted below on how to create custom IPSW file using Redsn0w 0.9.9b8.

Step 1: Download the stock iOS 5 firmware for your iPhone 4 using this link.

Step 2: Launch the downloaded Redsn0w 0.9.9b8, click on the "Extras" from the main menu, click on the "Custom IPSW" option and then save the custom and pre-jailbroken iOS 5 firmware on your desktop.

Step 3: Once done, under Extras option, click the "Pwned DFU" option to put your iPhone in Pwned DFU state.

Step 4: Then once in Pwned DFU mode, just launch iTunes 10.5 and then restore your iPhone.

  • Hold down the OPTION button then click on “Restore”, locate the custom IPSW file.

Step 5: Once fully restored, you can now unlock it using Gevey SIM by following this guide.

That’s it! Good luck!
