Can’t Restore Custom iPhone Firmware on iPhone 3GS After iOS 4.3.3 Downgrade

Hi to all, can anyone help me to restore custom iOS 4.3.3 IPSW on my iPhone 3GS. I can’t figure out how to restore it. I already tried to restore it while the device was in DFU mode but iTunes is throwing 1604 error. Is there something wrong with the custom iOS 4.3.3 IPSW? I used Sn0wbreeze to create this custom firmware. Will I get the same error if I use PwnageTool to create the custom 4.3.3? Please help. Thanks.

Hello Ranidel, there’s nothing wrong with the custom firmware and you will still get iTunes error 16xx no matter what jailbreak tool you use to create the custom firmware. The problem is the way how you restore the custom firmware on your iPhone. You should be noted that you must put your iPhone in Pwned DFU mode and not just a regular DFU mode when you are restoring a custom firmware which was created using either PwnageTool or Sn0wbreeze (You don’t need to put your iOS device in Pwned DFU mode if you are restoring a stock IPSW file). You can use iREB RC4 to put your iPhone in Pwned DFU mode. If you are not familiar with the steps, then you can follow the step by step guide posted below:

Step 1: Download iREB RC4 for Windows from here

Step 2: Connect your iPhone to your PC through USB cable.

Step 3: Launch iREB and select your iPhone from the list of iOS devices.

Step 4: Then put your iPhone in DFU mode:

  • Press the Home and Power button at the same time for exactly 10 seconds.
  • Then release the Power button after 10 seconds but continue holding the Home button until iREB detects your iPhone in DFU mode.

Step 5: Now, iREB will start patching the iBoot of your iOS device using Limera1n exploit.

Step 6: Once done, you will see the confirmation message saying that Your device is now in Pwned DFU state.

That’s it! You can now launch iTunes to restore the custom iOS 4.3.3 by pressing the Shift (or ALT if you are on Mac) button while clicking the Restore button.

Use iREB to Restore Custom iOS 4.3.3 Firmware
