Plants vs. Zombies 2 Is Now Live at the App Store, Get It Now for FREE! [iTunes Link]

Yesterday, we have brought into your attention that Plants vs. Zombies 2 will hit the worldwide App Store the next day. Thanks to the App Store's Facebook page, fans of original most likely had a hard time containing their excitement. And now the wait is finally over. Scoot over to the App Store and there you will find the sequel to the wildly popular and critically-acclaimed game by PopCap. That's right folks, Plants vs. Zombies 2 is now available to consume most if not all of your free time, and it's FREE.

You read that right. Plants vs. Zombies 2 is a free-to-play game which means that like most apps of this kind, it will have in-app purchases. First off, let's get the game's features out of the way:

Meet Bonk Choy, Bloomerang and Lightning Reed: Just a few of the powerful new plants that will defend your lawn through time. Go toe-to-missing-toe with dozens of new zombies including Ra Zombie in Ancient Egypt, Swashbuckler Zombie on the Pirate Seas, or Chicken Wrangler Zombie in the Wild West. In every new world, clever new zombies and brain-teasing challenges will test your zombie-zapping skills.

New Plant Food and power-ups will take your game to new dimensions. Plant Food will supercharge your plants when you need it most. Use your fingers to pinch, flick and zap zombies off your lawn.

Battle the fun-dead on land, on sea and… on the rails? Unlock ultra-challenging (and ultra-fun) endless levels — Pyramid of Doom, Pirate's Booty and the Big Bad Butte.

Gather keys to unlock brain teasers and new plants. Collect coins to purchase potent power-ups. Earn stars to take you to new worlds. Survive long enough and you'll be rewarded with piles of prizes and achievements. And that's just the beginning! The future holds many mysteries. Also, zombies. Lots and lots of zombies.

When I heard that the game was going to be free-to-play, I was honestly disappointed. I'd rather pay a one-time price with everything accessible either from the start or through continuous playing, as opposed to dealing with micro-transactions. However, I'm happy to report that Plants vs. Zombies 2 is designed in a way that it's perfectly viable to enjoy the game without resorting to IAPs (in-app purchases).

Instead of locking the game's contents through pay walls or dumbing down the gameplay for a more casual appeal, Plants Vs. Zombies 2's in-app purchases only applies to gamers who are less patient and skilled. The most dedicated players will not even need to pay a dime for these micro-transactions. Everything (that includes most of the plants but one) can be unlocked by simply playing normally. Things will get tougher as you progress, but that's just the way most games are designed. Just rise up to the challenge.

Plants Vs. Zombies 2 is a worthy successor to the ever-popular line-defense game. Download it to your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch through the iTunes link provided below.
