Cydia Gets a Version Update, Download Cydia 1.1.3 Now

In case you missed it, the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak by jailbreak hacker pod2g is now available for primetime. Along with this momentous occasion, the jailbreak essential app Cydia also gets an update. So just a quick heads-up, Cydia has been updated to version 1.1.3.

That's right, Cydia has been updated from version 1.1.1 to 1.1.3. The update was introduced rather silently and if you are going to check your iDevice now, you should be able to get an notification under Changes where Cydia Installer needs to be updated. It is hard to miss since it is an essential update.

Unfortunately, we don't have the change-log because it seems to be nowhere to be found. But it is likely that the changes are more along the lines of internal fixes which could make the application more bug-free, secure and stable, along with other sorts of improvements. The interface looks exactly the same as before so don't count on any significant cosmetic changes. With the release of the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak, it is possible that this Cydia update has something to do with it.

For those who have no clue about jailbreaks. Cydia is pretty much the reason why you jailbreak your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. Cydia is the central hub for all the jailbreak tweaks, apps, themes and pretty much anything that won't be allowed inside the iTunes App Store. Think of it as the black market version of the App Store. Much like the App Store, some of the tweaks and apps are free and there are those (especially the really good ones) that can be yours for a reasonable fee.

So go ahead and update your version of Cydia if you haven't done so yet, especially if you are planning to get the iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak.

Actually, 1.1.2 was the previous update. So it went 1.1.2 –> 1.1.3

You had to update manually to 1.1.2 with a deb because 1.1.2 only came with the JailbreakMe 4.3.1-4.3.3 jailbreak – all other jailbreaks come with 1.1.1, which may make it seem like a version number was skipped. But 1.1.2 WAS out and if you wanted to update you would just install the deb available on the internet in numerous locations.

Anyway, this version brings a lot of compatibility fixes for iOS 5.0.1, fixing force crashes when queueing installations and searching.
