Install Official Google+ App on Your iPad or iPod Touch [How-to Guide]

After weeks of waiting, the official iPhone app of Google's newest social network Google+ has now been approved by Apple and is now available via the App Store. This is a great step towards Google+'s expansion in addition to its web only application. Although as it turned out the app doesn't seem to support the iPad and iPod touch devices. This was a rather baffling omission from Google considering that owners of the device weren't even given an option to download the application. Fortunately the folks over at iDownloadBlog has managed to get their hands on workaround that lets you install Google+ in an iPad or iPod touch.

Google+ App for iPhone

Steps on How to Install Google+ app in Your iPad or iPod touch:

Note: This tutorial is tested for the iPad but it is assumed that it will work on the iPod touch as well.

  1. First, you will have to download the iPhone Configuration Utility. This tool is mainly used by developers as it lets the user install apps even if Apple hasn't approved of them yet.
  2. Once that's done, simply install it to your PC or Mac like any regular software.
  3. Connect your iPad or iPad touch into your computer. You will need to make sure that the Google+ app is in your computer. You can check that by launching iTunes and checking under the Apps Tab. If not, just point your browser to this link to download the app.
  4. Now you will need to launch the iPhone Configuration Utility. The program should detect your iDevice on the left-side panel. Click on your device.
  5. You will now see various information about your device, so just click the Applications tab.
  6. You should see an Add+ button at the top left corner of your window. Just browse to the directory where the Google+ IPA is located.
  7. In the list of applications, you should be able to see the Google+ app if done correctly. Select the app and it should give you the option to install, so go ahead and do that. After the process is complete, Google+ should now be in your iPad or iPod touch.

Google+ on iPad
It is worth noting that the official Google+ app is not really optimized for the iPad. Since it is an iPhone native app only, display problems should be present due to the iPad's larger resolution. You can enlarge the app to fit the screen but it doesn't look that nice. The folks at iDownloadBlog has provided a walkthrough on how to install Google+ into your iPad or iPod touch:

Keep in mind that this is only a workaround, so it is not guaranteed that the App will behave 100% like it was designed to do with the iPhone. Google is highly likely to release an official app that should work flawlessly with both devices. So it is recommended that you wait for that instead. But if you're in the hurry to use Google+ for your iPad or iPod touch, then by all means feel free to use this guide. [via iDownloadBlog]
