Change SpringBoard Background without Winterboard App

Yup! Now its possible. You can change SpringBoard and SMS background of your iPhone / iPod Touch without installing Winterboard app. For those who don't know: SpringBoard is the home-screen of your iPhone where you see icons of apps you have installed and Winterboard is an app which allows you install different themes and visual styles on your iPhone.

WinterBoard app is can cost you 10-24MB of RAM even when you haven't installed any theme, but when you will install a theme, it can easily consume over 35MB RAM of your iPhone.

So if are just using Winterboard app to change the background of your SMS panel and SpringBoard then you should use "Desktop/SMS Background" app. This app allows you to set any background of your choice and can make default icons of your iPhone reflective in nature just like iOS 4.0 in iPhone 4.

The procedure is simple:

  1. Open Cydia.
  2. Make sure you have default iSpazio repository installed in Cydia.
  3. Just incase there is no iSpazio repo added, you can install it manually by adding "" to your source.
  4. Go to "Search" in Cydia and search for "Desktop". Scroll down and select "Desktop/SMS Background".
  5. Install "Desktop/SMS Background" and restart your iPhone / iPod Touch.

If you feel any kind-of difficulty in following the above procedure then please do share it with me in comments!
