Upgrade iPhone 3GS with iPad Baseband to iOS 5 Firmware

Hi guys, I am using a jailbroken iPhone 3GS with iPad baseband installed. I brought this phone from a friend. Anyway, what I want to do is update or downgrade its baseband so that I could restore iOS 5 into my device. So what I should I need to do? Thanks.

Hello Jmarc, sad to say, but there’s no way you will be able to downgrade as well as upgrade your iPhone 3GS baseband as the 6.15.00 is irreversible. Meaning, you are stuck into that baseband (modem firmware). And since iPad’s 6.15.00 is a customized firmware for iPhone 3GS and iPhone 3G, you will not also be able to restore a stock firmware into your device through iTunes, or else you will end up with endless recovery mode loop. You can use Sn0wbreeze or PwnageTool to create a custom and pre-jailbroken IPSW file in order to preserve the baseband of your device from getting upgraded.

Anyway, the iPhone Dev Team, the Dev team who held responsible for numerous jailbreak and unlocking tools, have already announced that they are working on a new baseband downgrading tool. However, don’t expect it to be released any time soon as the Dev Team is also working with numerous projects, which include the untethered jailbreak support for the upcoming iOS 5 firmware. Speaking of iOS 5 firmware, the Cupertino, California-based Apple already seeded the iOS 5 beta 5 to its registered iOS developers for beta testing. But I would recommend you to stay away from iOS 5 beta and wait for the release date of the final version of iOS 5 firmware this coming fall. Anyway, while waiting for the final public of iOS 5, you can check this blog post to know more about the exciting and new features of the iOS 5.
