Can I Unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 4.3.5 using Gevey SIM or Ultrasn0w?

Hello, I have an iPhone 4 which I have updated earlier to iOS 4.3.5 through iTunes. Obviously, I am not familiar about jailbreaking and unlocking an iPhone. Anyways, will I be able to jailbreak and unlock my iPhone? A friend of mine using an unlocked iPhone and he told me that Gevey SIM or Ultrasn0w can do the trick for me. What should I use to unlock my iPhone?

Asked by: Adam form Boston, Massachusetts

Hello Adam, well, for your information, there are two methods of unlocking an iPhone. One is the software-based solution courtesy by iPhone De-Team through Ultrasn0w carrier unlocking tool. However, Ultrasn0w is unable to unlock iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS running on iOS 4.3.4 or iOS 4.3.5, as well as on new baseband versions. In your case, since you have updated the baseband of your iPhone, you will not be able to unlock using Ultrasn0w.

On the other hand, the other method to unlock an iPhone is to use a hardware-based iPhone unlocking solution which is Gevey SIM – a special SIM case that works smoothly on all types of SIM card. With Gevey SIM, you will be able to unlock iPhone 4 running on iOS 4.2.1 up to iOS 5 beta 2. Unlike Ultrasn0w, you don’t have to jailbreak your iPhone if you were going to unlock it with Gevey SIM. However, we at Jaxov recommend to jailbreak your iPhone first before unlocking it using Gevey SIM to ensure that all features of the iOS will work on the unlocked device. Additionally, jailbreaking will also enable you to add more features into your device by downloading and install some apps available only through Cydia.

You can follow this step by step guide on how to unlock iPhone 4 using Gevey SIM Pro. Or, you can wait for the iPhone Dev Team to release a new version of Ultrasn0w to unlock the final version of iOS 5 firmware this coming fall. You can follow this tutorial on how to jailbreak iPhone 4 using Redsn0w 0.9.8b3, the trick is point Redsn0w to iOS 4.3.4 instead of iOS 4.3.5.
