Is it possible to unlock iPhone 3GS with iPad baseband on iOS 5 firmware? Does Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 works on the new firmware? At the moment, I am on iOS 4.2.1. Which version of PwnageTool or Sn0wbreeze should I use in order to create custom iOS 5 custom .IPSW file? Thanks.

Instead of using PwnageTool (Mac OS X) or Sn0wbreeze (Windows), I would recommend you to use the new Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 to create custom firmware for your iPhone 3GS. Just like the aforementioned jailbreak tools, the new version of Redsn0w has capability to jailbreak all iOS devices (except for the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S) as well as preserve its baseband form getting upgraded. Anyway, you can check the tutorial posted below on how to create custom iOS 5 firmware using Redsn0w 0.9.9b5:
Step 1: Download iTunes 10.5 using this link.
Step 2: Download the new Redsn0w 0.9.9b5 for Mac OS X from here (Windows version will be released ASAP)
Step 3: Download the stock iOS 5 firmware for your iPhone 4 using from here.
Step 4: Launch the downloaded Redsn0w 0.9.9b5, click on the "Extras" from the main menu and click on the "Custom IPSW" option.
Step 5: Once done, under Extras option, click the "Pwned DFU" option to put your iPhone in Pwned DFU state.
Step 6: Then once in Pwned DFU mode, just launch iTunes 10.5 and then restore your iPhone.
- Mac OS X: Hold down the OPTION button then click on “Restore”, locate the custom IPSW file.
- Windows users: Hold down the SHIFT key and then click on “Restore”, point iTunes to the custom iOS 5 firmware.
That’s it. After jailbreaking and restoring your iPhone to custom firmware, all you have to do is wait for the iPhone Dev-Team for the updated version of Ultrasn0w for iOS 5. You can refer this tutorial on how to unlock iPhone using Ultrasn0w.
