Hello Jaxov team, I am a new iPhone user. My mom just gifted me an iPhone 4 on my 19th birthday. I am not sure about its baseband and firmware, but I was told that my phone is running an up-to-date firmware. I want to jailbreak and unlock it, so what I need to do? Thanks.

Step 1: Press the Settings from your iPhone homescreen to launch Settings menu.
Step 2: Press General from Settings menu.
Step 3: Now navigate to About from General menu.
Step 4: Under About screen you can check iPhone firmware version under Version label.
Step 5: Then scroll further down to check the baseband version of your iPhone under the Modem Firmware label.
If your iPhone is running iOS 5, then you can use the new Redsn0w 0.9.9b7 to tethered jailbreak your iPhone on the latest firmware. Redsn0w 0.9.9b7 can be found here. However, there’s no way you will be able to unlock your iPhone on iOS 5 due to the fact that it is already running on an unsupported modem firmware or baseband.
On the other hand, if the iPhone is running on iOS 4.3.5 or iOS 4.3.3, you will be able to jailbreak it using Redsn0w 0.9.9b7 (iOS 4.3.5) or with JailbreakMe 3.0. Regarding with unlock, you can use Gevey SIM Pro to unlock your iPhone from its contracted mobile phone carrier. You can refer to this tutorial on how to use Gevey SIM. And this guide for iOS 5 Gevey SIM unlock. Good luck!
