Sn0wbreeze Stuck at Creating iOS 5.0.1 Custom IPSW for iPhone 3GS

Hello Jaxov, I am trying to jailbreak my iPhone 3GS on iOS 5.0.1 using Sn0wbreeze 2.8b9. For some reason, Sn0wbreeze 2.8b9 always gets stuck at "Creating IPSW..." step ;( I tried to restore the unfinished IPSW on my iPhone 3GS but now it is stuck at black screen and I can’t manage to kick it out. What should I do? Thanks.

Hello Nova, it seems like your iPhone is stuck in DFU mode. Anyway, to fix this, you can hard reboot your iPhone or try to connect your iOS device to iTunes and put it in DFU mode. If this doesn’t work, then you can try the ever reliable standalone TinyUmbrella (Fix Recovery) to kick your iPhone out of DFU mode loop. The step-by-step guide on how to use TinyUmbrella (Fix Recovery) is posted below:

Step 1: Download TinyUmbrella (Fix Recovery) for Windows using this link (or from here for Mac OS X users)

Step 2: Download Zlib1.dll from here and put it in the same location where fixrecovery43.exe is located.

Step 3: Then connect your iPhone 4 into the computer via USB cable and power OFF your device.

Step 4: Now, launch iTunes as well as the downloaded TinyUmbrella (Fix Recovery) and put your iPhone into DFU mode.

  • Press and hold the Power and Home button for 10 seconds.
  • Then release Power button after 10 seconds but continue holding the Home button for another 10 seconds.

Step 5: That’s it! TinyUmbrella (Fix Recovery) will start fixing the iTunes error on your device.

Once you have managed to kick your iPhone out of DFU mode loop, you can rejailbreak your iPhone on iOS 5.0.1. But this time, I would recommend you to use Redsn0w 0.9.9b8. But you should be noted that the ability to create custom firmware is available for Mac OS X users only. Anyway, you can check this blog post on how to jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 using Redsn0w 0.9.9b8. Good luck!
