Sn0wbreeze 2.8b8 iBooty Failed to Boot iPhone 4 into Tethered Mode on iOS 5

Hello everyone, I have downloaded Sn0wbreeze 2.8b8 to create iOS 5 custom firmware for my iPhone 4 to preserve the 04.10.08 baseband to get it unlocked. However, after jailbreaking my computer crashed after launching iBooty tool to boot my iPhone into tethered mode. Where can I get stable iBooty. Sorry, this is my first time to jailbreak. Thanks.

Hello Nate! Though Sn0wbreeze 2.8b8 is working on the final version of iOS 5, the jailbreak tool still needs to be updated as we are hearing numerous reports from jailbreakers and unlockers regarding the same issue. You should jailbreak your iPhone using Redsn0w 0.9.9b7 as this version of Redsn0w has capability to preserve the baseband of your iPhone by restoring iOS 5 custom firmware on your device.

Anyway, you can download you can download iBooty 2.2 for your iPhone 4 using this download link. And then follow the step-by-step guide posted below on how to boot iPhone 4 into tethered mode:

Step 1: Power OFF your device and then tether (connect) it into your PC via USB cable.

Step 2: Then launch the downloaded iBooty.exe and select your iPhone 4.

Step 3: Now, you have to put your iPhone into DFU mode:

  • Press the Home and Power button at the same time for 10 seconds.
  • Then release the Power after 10 seconds but keep holding the Home button.
  • Just wait till iBooty detects your iPhone in DFU mode and then release the Home button.

Step 4: Once in DFU mode, iBooty will automatically patch the iBoot of your iPhone using the Limera1n exploit.

Step 5: If for some reasons that you get stuck at "Waiting for device..." step, just repeat the entire procedures. That’s it!

Then check this blog post on how to unlock iPhone on iOS 5 using Gevey SIM, and this guide to get SemiTether jailbreak.

Note: You can also disable your antivirus while using iBooty as some antivirus softwares detect this application as a malicious program.
