Redsn0w Unrecognized Build Error while Jailbreaking iPhone 4 on iOS 5.0.1
Hello Jaxov, I messed up with my iPhone 4 (jailbroken on iOS 4.2.1) after installing some apps through Cydia store. To fix my iPhone, I accidentally restored it to iOS 5.0.1 using iTunes. So I tried to jailbreak using the new Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 but it seems that the new iPhone firmware is not supported by Redsn0w. I am getting "unrecognized build" build error everytime I try to jailbreak my iPhone. What I need to do to fix my iPhone? I am using Windows. Thanks in advance.

Hello Aireen! The new Redsn0w 0.9.9b8
will not recognize the stock iOS 5.0.1 firmware. But the good news is, you can still jailbreak your iPhone 4 on iOS 5.0.1
using Redsn0w 0.9.9b8. The trick is that you will need to point the application manually to the stock iOS 5 firmware. Anyway, just to make sure, I would recommend you to re-download Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 for Windows using this link
(Mac OS X users can get the Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 from here
). Then to jailbreak, just simply connect your iPhone to your computer and then launch the downloaded Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 jailbreak tool. Click on Extras
, choose Select IPSW
option and then point it to the final version of iOS 5 firmware,
not iOS 5.0.1 (you can download the stock iOS 5.0 firmware from here
). After that, you can now proceed to the jailbreak using Redsn0w. You can refer on this blog post
for the detailed iOS 5.0.1 using Redsn0w 0.9.9b8.
On the other hand, since you’ve previously jailbroken your iPhone to iOS 4.2.1, you can check Cydia’s server if you have saved iOS 4.2.1 SHSH blobs. In that case, you can refer to our step-by-step guide posted here on how to downgrade iPhone 4 to iOS 5 back to iOS 4.2.1. Good luck.
