Hello guys, I am trying to jailbreak my iPhone 3GS with baseband 05.16.02 so that I could unlock it using Ultrasn0w. However, Redsn0w 0.9.6RC15 crashed during the part where it was supposed to download iPad baseband 06.15.00 for my iPhone. I tried to re-jailbreak, but still no luck! Please help. Thanks.

There are possibility that Redsn0w get crashed primarily because it can’t distinguish or access your iPhone 3GS. We all know that iPhone 3GS is available in old and new bootrom, and in order to jailbreak your iPhone successfully, Redsn0w will prompt for the bootrom of your beloved device. If you are unsure about the bootrom of your iPhone, then you can use iH8sn0w’s iDetector to help you analyze the bootrom of your iPhone 3GS. Now, during the jailbreaking process, (if you were following our tutorial) in step 6 Redsn0w will prompt you for the bootrom of your device, just simply choose YES and if your bootrom is new or NO if your baseband is old.
Additionally, you should be note that you should not choose Install Cydia and Install iPad baseband at the same time during the jailbreak process. To eliminate unnecessary error and crashes, you should choose Cydia first in Step 9 and then complete the iOS jailbreaking process. Then, you should re-launch Redsn0w and this time you should choose and Install iPad baseband. Then after jailbreaking, you can now unlock your iPhone using Ultrasn0w 1.2.3. You can refer on this tutorial on how to unlock an iPhone using Ultrasn0w.
