Hello Jaxov, I am trying to figure out how to unlock my iPhone 4. My iPhone is running on iOS 4.2.1. However, some websites and blogs that I have checked regarding iPhone jailbreaking and unlocking suggested that I should have an unlockable baseband in order to unlock it using Ultrasn0w. This really makes me confused as some other websites are telling that they will be able to unlock iPhone 4 on all basebands. Anyways, is there a way to know if my iPhone is unlockable? And what are unlockable iPhone basebands?

Hello Jem, iPhone’s baseband is very important if you are considering unlocking your iPhone from its official contracted mobile phone carrier using Ultrasn0w software carrier unlocking tool. At the moment, there is NO software-based unlocking for iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS running on higher basebands such as 02.10.04, 3.10.01, and 04.10.01. Meaning, you will not be able to unlock iPhone 4 or iPhone 3GS running on these unsupported basebands. In your case, I would recommend you to check the baseband version of your iPhone. If you have 3.10.01 baseband installed on your device then there’s no software unlock solution for you. You can check some of the supported and unsupported iPhone basebands below:
Supported iPhone 4 / 3GS / 3G Basebands:
- 05.14.02 via 06.15.00 » [How-To]
- 05.15.04 via 06.15.00 » [How-To]
- 05.16.01 via 06.15.00 » [How-To]
- 05.16.02 via 06.15.00 » [How-To]
Alternatively, these Ultrasn0w unsupported basebands can be unlock using the SIM unlocking tool like Gevey SIM and Rebel SIM – a hardware unlock that works on all iPhone Firmware and basebands.
On the other hand, iPhone 3GS users with baseband 05.14.02 / 05.15.04 / 05.16.01 / 05.16.02 will be able to unlock their iPhone by updating its baseband to iPad’s 6.15.00 baseband.
