Hello jailbreakers and unlockers, I am so excited for the new iPhone 4S and I am planning to get a new one ASAP. Right now, I am using an old iPhone 3G on iOS 4.2.1, which was jailbroken and unlocked by flashing the iPad baseband. Anyway, is it possible to jailbreak, and most importantly, unlock the upcoming iPhone 4S using the current version of Ultrasn0w? Thanks.

Just like the iPad 2, the Limera1n bootrom exploit will not working on this hardware. So far, you can only jailbreak the iPad 2 if you are on iOS 4.3.3 using JailbreakMe 3.0 (userland exploit). And now that Comex is already working with Apple and GeoHot already landed in a job at Facebook, jailbreaking the new hardware and firmware will be a lot harder. Though you can jailbreak the beta and Golden Master version of the iOS 5 firmware on all A4 iDevices using Redsn0w 0.9.9b3, it is still a tethered jailbreak and you will need to connect your iPhone to your computer in order to power it ON every time you reboot or power OFF your device. Additionally, the iPhone 4S will come pre-installed with iOS 5 firmware and at the moment, the modem firmware version of the iOS 5 GM on iPhone 4 is 04.11.08 and 05.16.05 on the iPhone 3GS. Meaning, there’s no way you can use the latest version of Ultrasn0w (version 1.2.3) to unlock the phone from its contracted mobile phone carrier as these basebands are unsupported.
What about Gevey SIM? Well, Gevey SIM is working on iOS 5 beta 7. But, there are possibilities that apple will fix this and prevent users from unlocking their device after the final version of the iOS 5 firmware.
Anyway, if you really wanted you have an unlocked iPhone 4S, then you your only option is get a factory unlocked iPhone 4S which will be available next month. However, the unlocked iPhone will not work on CDMA networks, meaning Verizon and Sprint users are out of luck.
