iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2.1 Stuck After Launching Loader App to Install Cydia

Hi to all, I have just jailbroken my iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2.1 using Greenpois0n RC5 tool. But after installing and launching Loader app to get Cydia app, the iPhone froze and then powered itself off automatically. After turning it ON, it got stuck at black screen and now I can’t even power the device OFF. I don’t want to update this to iOS 5 to keep my untethered jailbreak. Please help. Thanks.

Hello Ban, this is a quite common issue when jailbreaking an iPhone or iPod Touch on iOS 4.2.1 using Greenpois0n. To fix this, you will need to restore it to iTunes and then rejailbreak. Since you don’t want to upgrade to iOS 5, I would recommend you to use iFaith SHSH Blobs Dumper to create a signed iOS 4.2.1 firmware and then restore it on your iPhone 4 using iTunes. But first, you will need to kick your iPhone out of DFU mode. To do that, you can try to hard reset it by pressing the Home button and the Power button at the same time until the iPhone shuts itself off and begins to restart. Then release both buttons when you see the silver Apple logo on your screen. Alternatively, you can use the standalone TinyUmbrella (Fix Recovery) tool. The tutorial on how to use TinyUmbrella (Fix Recovery) can be found on this link.

After kicking your iPhone out of recovery mode, you can now create a custom firmware for your iOS device. You can get iFaith version 1.3.2 from here. Then follow this guide on how to create the custom iOS 4.2.1 firmware. Using the same tool, follow this tutorial on how to restore your iPhone on pre-jailbroken custom iOS 4.2.1 firmware. After restoring, you can now jailbreak it with Sn0wbreeze 2.2.1. That’s it! Good luck!
