How to Upgrade iPhone 4 to iOS 5 While Preserving Baseband?

Dear all, I was thinking to upgrade my iPhone 4’s firmware to iOS 5. However, since I have an unlocked iPhone (which I got from eBay) running iOS 4.3.3, a friend told me to jailbreak my iPhone on iOS 5 while preserving its baseband. Any ideas how to get it done?

Hello Walid, if I were you, I would stick to iOS 4.3.3 and will not risk my unlocked iPhone as there is no Ultrasn0w unlock method available for iOS 5 firmware. Anyway, if you really want to upgrade your iPhone 4 to iOS 5, then you should jailbreak your iPhone using the new Sn0wbreeze 2.8b4 (for Windows users, Mac users should wait for PwnageTool for iOS 5) so that you could preserve the unlockable baseband of your iPhone from getting upgraded. You can check this blog post to download and to know more about Sn0wbreeze 2.8b4. You can also check some of the awesome and tempting features of the iOS 5 as well as download it from this link.

Before you jailbreak iOS 5 beta on your device, you should backup your iOS 4.3.3 SHSH Blobs using either iFaith or TinyUmbrella so that you can downgrade it to previous firmware version. Then you can follow this step by step guide on how to jailbreak iOS 5 beta 3 using Sn0wbreeze 2.8b4. However, you should be note that this version of Sn0wbreeze offers tethered jailbreak only, which means you have to tether your iPhone into your PC and boot into tethered jailbroken state every time you reboot or power it off.
