A friend just introduced me to iPhone jailbreaking, and now I want to jailbreak my first iPhone. It’s a Verizon iPhone 4 running on iOS 4.2.10. I’m looking for tutorials for at least 3 hours now. My mate told me that he managed to jailbroke his iPhone 4 using JailbreakMe 3.0. Will I be able to jailbreak mine using the same too my mate used? Thanks.

Hell Phil, I am 99.99% sure that your mate have iOS 4.3.3 firmware installed when he have jailbroken his iPhone 4 using JailbreakMe 3.0. And in your case, there’s no chance for you to jailbreak your iPhone because your device is running on an unsupported firmware. For your information, Apple released the iOS 4.2.9 / iOS 4.2.10 for CDMA iPhone 4 and iOS 4.3.4 / iOS 4.3.5 for GSM iOS iPhones to permanently patch the jailbreak exploit / security flaw used by Comex in his JailbreakMe 3.0 tool to jailbreak all iOS devices especially the iPad 2.
Step 1: Download and install the latest version of iTunes on your PC.
Step 2: Download iOS 4.2.9 IPSW file for your CDMA iPhone 4 from this link. Download Reds0w 0.9.8b4 (Windows | Mac OS X).
Step 3: Make sure that your device is running on iOS 4.2.10 (or iOS 4.3.5 for GSM iPhone users). Launch iTunes and update or restore to iOS 4.2.10 (iOS 4.3.5) using the stock IPSW file. But make sure that you are holding down the SHIFT (Windows) or ALT (Mac) key so you can browse for the 4.2.10 IPSW.
Step 4: Now, launch the download Redsn0w jailbreak tool and point it to iOS 4.2.9 firmware file. Redsn0w will automatically identify the firmware and it will inform you once done.
Step 5: Click on Next and this should take to a window where you will be able to select which components of the jailbreak you’d like to install. Of course, you will need to Install Cydia in order to access numerous jailbreak apps and tweaks. You can also install other options, but only if you know their functions. Click Next once done.
Step 6: As instructed by Redsn0w, make sure that your device is both plugged in and turned off before you click on the Next button
Step 7: Now you have to put your iPhone into DFU mode, just follow the on-screen instructions.
Step 8: Redsns0w will detect your iPhone in DFU mode once you have successfully put your iPhone DFU mode. If it does, then all you have to do is wait for the tool to jailbreak your iOS device till it completes the jailbreaking process.
That’s it! You now have a tethered jailbroken iPhone on iOS 4.2.10. To tethered boot your iPhone, just simply connect your device into your PC then launch Redsn0w and choose Just boot tethered right now instead of Install Cydia option.
