Hello Jaxov, I just bought a new iPhone 4 on eBay that is locked to Orange. I’m not so sure about its operating system as well as its baseband. My question is, will I be able to jailbreak and unlock it? Can I use it over T-Mobile network?

In order to know if you will be able to unlock your iPhone 4, you will need to check the firmware and baseband version of your iPhone 4. To do that, all you have to do navigate to “Settings” and then tap on “General” and onto “About”. Then slide down and look for “Version” and the numbers next to this will be your firmware. To check your baseband, just simply go to “Settings” and then tap on “General” and onto “About” and scroll down and next to “Modem Firmware” will be your baseband version. iPhones with baseband 06.15.00 (for iPhone 3GS / 3G)/ 01.59.00 / 05.13.04 / 05.12.01 / 05.11.07 / 04.26.08 can be unlock using the latest version of Ultrasn0w. If you have baseband 02.10.04 / 03.10.01 / 04.10.01, unfortunately, you won’t be able to unlock your iPhone 4 from its official carrier using Ultrasn0w, BUT you can unlock it using Gevey PRO.
So if you jailbreak your iPhone, you can either use Sn0wbreeze (for Windows) or PwnageTool (for Mac OS X) to create a custom pre-jailbroken IPSW file which can be restored on your iPhone 4 thought iTunes. If you have unlockable baseband, you should use these tools as it will preserve your baseband for getting upgraded. Then once jailbroken, just simply download and install Ultrasn0w form Cydia to unlock your iPhone. For instance, if you are already on iOS 4.3.3, you can follow these tutorials on how to jailbreak iPhone on iOS 4.3.3 using Sn0wbrreze 2.7.1 or PwnageTool 22.214.171.124. Once jailbroken, then follow this tutorial on how to unlock iPhone 4 with Ultrasn0w 1.2.3. Alternatively, if your iPhone is running on a unsupported baseband then you can follow this step by step guide on how to unlock iPhone 4 on iOS 4.3.3 using Gevey SIM.
