How to Jailbreak and Unlock iPhone 3GS on iOS 5 Firmware?
Hi Jaxov, I have a jailbroken and unlocked iPhone 3GS with old bootrom. Can I update to iOS 5 when it becomes available publicly and then jailbreak it without losing the unlock? I am on iOS 4.3.3 with 06.15.00 baseband. Thanks.

Hello Jude! Yes, you will be able to jailbreak and possibly unlock your iPhone 3GS using the updated version of Ultrasn0w
– if the iPhone Dev-Team released the revamped version of their carrier unlocking tool to unlock iPhones on iOS 5 firmware. However, you should be noted that updating your iPhone 3GS to the stock iPhone firmware will get you in trouble. This is primarily because of the fact that you have already flashed the iPad baseband on your iPhone in order to unlock it and now restoring to stock firmware will result in endless recovery mode or DFU mode loop. So, if you want to update your iPhone to iOS 5, then you will need to jailbreak by creating a custom firmware (pre-jailbroken) for your device. To do that, you can use the updated version of PwnageTool
(if you are on Mac OS X) or using Sn0wbreeze
(if you are on Windows). Then after jailbreaking
the iOS 5, just simply restore it using iTunes. On the other hand, iPhone 4
users who also want to unlock their device should also use PwnageTool or Sn0wbreeze to preserve the baseband of the device, or use Gevey
SIM to get unlock.
