How to Fix iPhone 3GS Battery Issues with iPad Baseband 6.15.00?

Hello Jaxov, I’m an iPhone users, I have an iPhone 4 back in US but decided to downgrade to iPhone 3GS due to the fact that the new iPhone 4 with new baseband is not supported by Ultrasn0w. I am using an iPhone 3GS jailbroken using Redsn0w 0.9.6RC16 on iOS 4.3.3 with iPad baseband 6.15.00 installed. The device is unlocked using Ultrasn0w 1.2.3. All is working well except for the battery. I have noticed that the battery drains quickly. Do you think Redsn0w or Ultrasn0w has something to do with the battery, I mean it is hardware, right?

Hello Phil, you will be able to unlock your iPhone 4 on any baseband and firmware version with Gevey Pro hardware unlock. Regarding with the “software and hardware”, I am not so sure if battery drain issue is related with either Redsn0w or Ultrasn0w. But most iPhone 3GS users who have updated their baseband to iPad’s 6.15.00 baseband and unlocked using Ultrasn0w 1.2.3 have experiencing this issue.
But you can try some of these tips to enhance your iPhone 3GS battery life:
  • Downgrade iOS 4.3.3 to iOS 4.2.1 as it has best battery standby time as it uses less RAM and processor in comparison to iOS 4.3.x, you will be able to downgrade if you have save iOS 4.2.1 SHSH blobs. You can follow this tutorial on how to downgrade.
  • Try to disable the native iOS 4.x.x multitasking on your iPhone. If you don’t know how, you can refer on this tutorial. If you are not confident in disabling multitasking, you can install Remove Background SBSettings toggle from Cydia. You can use this toggle to remove all apps running the background. If you are not a fan of SBSettings, then you can install Auto3G from Cydia. Auto3G will automatically turn off your 3G when you put your device into sleep mode and back on again when you wake.
