Fix ‘Exploit Failed Error’ when Jailbreaking iOS 6.0.1 Using Redsn0w

Hi Jaxov! I know Redsn0w is not supporting the new ios 6.0.1 yet, but my brother was stubborn and said it would work anyways. When he tried however, he kept getting this window popping up saying Exploit Failed, any idea as to why? Thanks.

Hello Johanna! As you know exactly, the Exploit Failed Redsn0w error occurs because iOS 6.0.1 is not fully supported by the latest version of Redsn0w. However, it is possible to jailbreak A4-based devices using redsn0w 0.9.15b3 on iOS 6.0.1, so your brother is not entirely wrong. You will just have to do the good old trick of pointing Redsn0w to an old IPSW file. Fortunately, fixing the Redsn0w exploit failed error is not that difficult. You will just have to download the latest version of Redsn0w from here.

We are going to assume that you already know how to jailbreak iOS 6.0.1, otherwise you might want to refer to this Redsn0w guide. The main reason why the exploit failed error occur is because the user failed to perform the steps on how to place their device in DFU Mode. So you should at least know how to properly put your device in DFU Mode. Remember that timing is key here. If you have failed to perform the steps the first time around, you can always retry. Anyway, Redsn0w is also displaying the DFU Mode steps while jailbreaking so by following that, you should do fine.

Another good measure to prevent the Exploit failed error is by running Redsn0w in Administrator Mode when running Windows. Simply right click the redsn0w.exe file and choose Run as Administrator. Hope this helps in solving your exploit failed error.
