Error 29 when Updating iOS 3.1.3 to iOS 4.3.5 on iPhone 3GS

Hi guys, my backup iPhone 3GS is dead. I restored it on my iTunes to iOS 4.3.5 and it gave me an error 29. My iPhone 3GS was previously running on iOS 3.1.3 and was jailbroken with Spirit tool. Anyway, is there a way to get this iPhone working again? Thanks.

Hello Allan, the only thing you will need to get your iPhone 3GS working is to get a new battery. Yes, iTunes error 29 has nothing to do with the software or jailbreaking, its 100 percent battery issue. I would recommend you to take your iPhone to the nearest Apple Store or legitimate iPhone Service Shop and ask them to replace your battery. Or, you can charge the battery of your iPhone first before connecting and restoring it to iTunes. You can check this blog post to download and know more about iOS 4.3.5. If you got stuck on endless recovery mode loop, then you can use TinyUmbrella (Fix Recovery) or Recboot to kick your iPhone out of recovery mode.

If you rely on jailbreak, then you can jailbreak your iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.3.5 using Redsn0w 0.9.89b4. However, you should be note that this version of Redsn0w offers tethered jailbreak only. Meaning, you have to connect your iPhone 3GS to your Mac OS X or Windows and re-run Redsn0w to boot it in tethered jailbreak state. The steps by step guide on how to use Redsn0w 0.9.8b4 for Mac OS X and Windows can be found on this link.
