How to Enable iPhone 3GS to Accept International SIM Cards Without Jailbreaking?
Hi, I am all set for a month long trip to Asia. Is there a tweak to enable my iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.3.3 to accept international SIM cards? What should I need to do? Can I unlock my iPhone using Gevey SIM? Thanks.

Hello Cely, you will not be able to unlock your iPhone
3GS using Gevey
SIM due to the fact that your hardware does not support micro SIM card. Therefore, the only way to enable your iPhone 3GS to work over other mobile phone network carrier (both local and international carrier) is through jailbreaking
and unlocking. In your case, to unlock your iPhone using Ultrasn0w
software-based carrier unlocking tool, you will have to update the baseband of your iPhone to iPad’s 6.15.00 baseband. However, you should be note that this process has a downside; once you update the baseband of your device to 6.15.00 you will automatically lose the GPS functionality of your device, which includes the Maps and other iOS apps that utilizes Global Positioning System functionally of the device. Yes, including Facebook Places.
Anyway, to jailbreak your iPhone I would recommend you to jailbreak the iOS 4.3.3 using the latest version of Redsn0w. You can download Redsn0w 0.9.6RC19 from this link if you are on Windows or from here if you are using a Mac. Then follow this guide on how to upgrade iPhone 3GS with 5.16.01 / 5.16.02 baseband to iPad’s 6.15.00 baseband. Once fully jailbroken with Cydia app installed, you can now unlock your iPhone using Ultrasn0w 1.2.3. The step by step guide on how to unlock iPhone 3GS on iOS 4.3.3 can be found here.
