Can’t Restore iPhone 3GS on iOS 3.1.3 to iOS 4.3.5 Using iTunes

Hi, I haven’t updated the firmware of this phone since I bought this couple of years ago. The handset is still on iOS 3.1.3. A friend, who is an iPhone 4 user, told me that I could update my iPhone to iOS 4.3.5. However, when I am connecting my iPhone to my computer, iTunes do nothing it just asked me if I want to sync my phone. Why I can’t restore my phone? Thanks.

Hello Carmella, there are numerous factors why you are unable to restore your iPhone to the latest iPhone firmware. First, make sure that you are connected to a non-restricted Internet or Wi-Fi so that iTunes could authorize the firmware restore. If you were using a router, try to reboot your PC, modem, and your router. Aside from having fast Internet, you also need to ensure that you have the latest version of iTunes installed on your Windows or PC. Older version of iTunes does not support the newly released firmware file version. You can check this blog post to know more and download iTunes 10.4.1 for Windows and Mac OS X. Just uninstall your iTunes and install the latest version of the tool. You can also check this link to download and know more about iOS 4.3.5.

Also, if you were using a USB hub, disconnect your iPhone and connect it directly to your PC. You can also use a different connector if you were having issues when connecting your iPhone to your computer. If still no hope, I would recommend you to restore your iPhone using a different computer with latest version of iTunes installed.

On the other hand, if you’re planning to jailbreak your iPhone on iOS 4.3.5, then you can use Redsn0w 0.9.8b4 which is available for Mac OS X and Windows users. Hope this help.
