The Overdrive lets you sync up with any Wi-Fi device, like computers, phones, e-readers and portable game consoles. And when you’re outside of 4G coverage areas, it’ll automatically switch over to Sprint’s 3G network, so you can get online almost anywhere.

The iPad 4G case is being offered with Sprint's Overdrive Hotspot at Best Buy locations with a 2 years contract. The case has separate padded compartments for iPad and Sprint Overdrive 3G/4G Mobile Hotspot.

Sprint is definitely filling the gap of 4th-gen mobile phones with its Overdrive services, as this allows a 2G/3G device to use a 4G network via Wi-Fi. On a 4G network you can get 3 - 6 Mbps which is considerably faster than 3G network speed of 600 Kbps - 1 Mbps. Moreover, if you are not in 4G coverage, the Overdrive router works pretty well on Sprint's 3G network, so if you are a Sprint customer, getting your hands on Overdrive router isn't a bad choice at all!

As far as the hardware specs of phone is concerned, they are more-or-less similar to those of HTC HD2 but there are some enhancements particularity in memory and battery life. Phone has large 4.3 inch TFT LCD display with a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, 1GHz powerful Snapdragon processor, 512 MB RAM. Front camera for making video calls is of 1.3 megapixels and phone also provides 720p video recording! Last but not the least, it supports Wi-Fi 802.11b/g. The price of the phone has not been announced yet, but as per Sprint, they would release the details soon. This phone would certainly be a landmark in 4G arena, as 4G technology truly possess a high data speed and performance but there wasn't a 4G(WiMAX / LTE) handset available in the market to support a true 4G multimedia experience on the go, hopefully this set will fulfill 4G customers needs. The WiMAX handset will be manufactured by HTC and it will an Android OS based, HTC Supersonic will be the name of device, acc to people. Cisco has announced that AsiaBell launched its broadband Mobile WiMAX service in central Kazakhstan, based on Cisco's comprehensive Broadband Wireless Solution.

This is Cisco's first commercial WiMAX trial, before this Cisco was only providing WiMAX Core/IP/MPLS services with its Routers/Switches profolio to WiMAX service providers, this trial is really an initial milestone for Cisco, as Cisco is in WiMAX Access Network services too with it. If the trial is successful, Cisco ranking would difinitely be increase in internatinal WiMAX race.

"We are pleased to announce the first Mobile WiMAX offering in the Karaganda region. AERO is a convenient service for our customers, as it allows them easy, highly secure and cost efficient broadband access. In addition, we are also offering virtual private network and voice services. • For the rollout of the service, AsiaBell chose Cisco's end-to-end Broadband Wireless Solution, including an Internet Protocol IP Multiprotocol Label Switching (IP/MPLS) network core, which was integrated with the public switched telephone network (PSTN).
• The solution incorporates the Cisco BWX 8300 Series Broadband Wireless Access System with Cisco 7604 Routers, Cisco ME 6500 Series Ethernet Switches and Cisco Catalyst® ME 3750 Switches, Cisco AS5350XM Universal gateways, and Cisco ASA 5500 Series Adaptive Security Appliances. AsiaBell also offers subscribers Cisco modems for use with desktop and portable computers.

The Cisco BWX 8305 base stations provide Mobile WiMAX access services using innovative adaptive beamforming technologies that are designed to deliver excellent coverage and indoor penetration even in difficult conditions. The report reveals that the WiMAX business model is developing from being an alternative to wired broadband access into a means for strengthening operator offer through service bundling.

“Delays in the certifying of equipment and the building of economies of scale that were promised by the Xhom and Clearwire launches in the United States, added to negative announcements on WiMAX by Alcatel Lucent, Nortel Networks and Nokia Mobile, have deprived launches of new operations using this technology of their dynamism. We have however noted cases, such as that of Embratel in Brazil, where WiMAX is used to penetrate markets where operators still do not have a fixed line network, to be able to wire them later with HFC networks,” indicated Carlos Blanco, Market Research Director for Signals Telecom Consulting and author of the reports.

High customer acquisition costs, wireless broadband access service proliferation by means of HSPA and lower speeds than those available via wired alternatives such as DSL or cable modem have been the main barriers faced by WiMAX in its attempt to position itself as a viable alternative broadband connection in urban centers.

In total, at 1Q09 there are 26 operators offering wireless broadband services by means of various WiMAX technologies, or that have indicated their intention to migrate their networks to 802.16 technologies in the medium term.

Mondi comes with an elegant and sleek black casing with a slider keyboard, 4.3 inch touch screen and an optical mouse, it runs on Windows Mobile Operating System – 6.1, also its major amenities include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 2.0, 3.0 MP camera, camcorder and 4GB of internal memory.

There was no clue about the price from the officials, but interested user would be able to buy it form top stores in second quarter.

Samsungs senior vice president of product and strategy said “The Mondi provides the power of a laptop but easily fits in the hand or a pocket”, Omer Khan said Samsung supports WiMAX networks globally and felt the need to build a WiMax product even though the capabilities of Clear in the U.S. are still in an early stage. He said "We do believe its important to support WiMAX to take advantage of 4G speeds", Khan also said "Everything starts at a nascent stage, and the Mondi is our first device to support that".

To conclude, I would say that it’s a good sign for WiMAX technology that telecom giants have started developing these mobile WiMAX devices. WiMAX technology is still in its grooming days, but such positive happening would certainly strengthen WiMAX from both technology and consumer service point of view.
