Good news for those iPhone users, who mistakenly upgraded your to iPhone 3.1.3 OS from previous firmware and their iPhones are no more unlocked now as by upgrading to OS 3.1.3, iPhone’s baseband upgrades to 05.12.01 as well and currently no unlock for 05.12.01 baseband is available. MuscleNerd, the member of iPhone Dev-Team in reply to a tweet announced that an unlock will be released for iPhone 3G/3GS 05.12.01 baseband on OS 3.1.3 in June! with the release of new iPhone 4.0 OS expected at WWDC 2010.

The infamous iPhone hacker George Francis Hotz (geohot) has registered a new domain name limera1n.com. The who.is records of limra1n.com and blackra1n.com confirms that these domain names are owned by geohot. This new domain name was registered on March 27 and was last updated on April 13th, yes its the same day on which geohot successfully jailbroke iPhone OS 4.0 via blackra1n. However there is no official confirmation from geohot himself about the ownership of limra1n.com.

Thunderst0rm team has released the final version of the tool which promised to jailbreak and unlock iPhone OS 3.1.3 05:12:01 baseband. However the final version (download) of the released tool is nothing more than a simple .NET app. When the program was decompiled, it lacked any interaction with the iDevice connected via USB. As you can see from the screenshot below, it just contains only a few lines of code which merely displays MsgBox on a button click.

This post is about unlocking iPhone 3G on latest iPhone 4.0 OS Beta. The hindrance to unlock 4.0 OS was that it upgrades baseband to 05.13.03 and currently no unlock tool is available for latest baseband, but updated version of FuzzyBand tool has been released to downgrade 05.13.03 baseband of iPhone OS 4 to 04.26.08 so we can use ultrasn0w later to unlock it. Please note that the tools is for older bootloader 05.08 (5.8) and it will work on iPhone 3G only.

A new team of hackers called thunderst0rmTeam have released a video of a tool which will unlock iPhone OS 3.1.3 05:12:01 baseband. According to the blog post by one of the team member, they are going to release this tool on 23rd April. The tool will unlock iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod 1G running on firmware 3.1.3 05:12:01 baseband.

According to the latest blog post by P0sixninja who happens to be a member of Chronic Dev Team, he will be releasing an exploit for iPhone OS 3.1.3 and iPhone OS 3.1.2 which will Jailbreak all iDevices by the end of April. As far as unlock for these iDevices is concerned, you have to wait until Next Generation iPhone 4G is released. He further added that many people think that Greenpois0n is an exploit, infact its not an exploit but toolkit which helps the hackers to discover and exploit new vulnerabilities.

This Blacksn0w RC2 is a combination of recent fix released by MSFT Guy (He patched Blacksn0w to work with firmware 3.1.3) and original unlock released by George Hotz, which itself was released as an added utility in latest blackra1n RC3 tool to unlock 05.11.07 baseband iPhone 3G and 3GS running on 3.1.x firmware. This final version of Blacksn0w RC2 comes up with a fix for WiFi loss and boot loops issue.

Interestingly an iPhone hardware shop in Istanbul, Turkey has shown a video in which iPhone OS 3.1.3 baseband 05.12.01 is unlocked by reflashing baseband 05.12.01 to 04.26.08. The video shows that initially iPhone has firmware 3.1.3 baseband 05.12.01, later after performing hardware hack the baseband has been downgraded to 04.26.08.
