Just like iOS 4.1 beta 1, this build of iOS is available for developers only, so if you have a registered Apple Developer account, you can download the update by signing into iPhone Dev Center.

iOS 4.1 Beta 2
This update counters the issues like iOS 4 slow speed on iPhone 3G and iPhone 4's repositioned proximity sensor. Please note that unlike iOS 4.1 beta 1, this update comes with a baseband upgradation. So, if you are on an unlocked iPhone, avoid updating to iOS 4.1 beta 2 otherwise your device will be locked until iPhone Dev Team releases an unlocking tool.

The previous version of EasyiRecovery required LibUSB installed on your system to work properly. However you will need .NET Framework 4.0 to run EasyiRecovery 2.5.

iPhone Recovery Mode

You can use EasyiRecovery to force your iPhone exit the recovery mode loop. Just incase EasyiRecovery also fails to get your iPhone out of infinite recovery mode loop, try to put the device in DFU mode and then restore the custom IPSW. If DFU mode also fails, try Recboot, its an alternative to EasyiRecovery and also fixes the iTunes 1015 error during custom IPSW restore process.

How To Jailbreak iPhone 3GS (Old Bootrom) on iOS 4.0.1 with PwnageTool Bundles

*Find download links at the end of post. This is an unofficial release. So please avoid it if you are new to jailbreaking and unlocking. However i have tested the procedure below myself and its working fine.

  1. *Download iOS 4.0.1 for iPhone 3GS
  2. *Download iTunes 9.2.1
  3. *Download PwnageTool
  4. *Download PwnageTool Bundles
  5. Create a new folder on desktop and put PwnageTool, iOS 4.0.1 IPSW and PwnageTool Bundles in it. Rename folder to JB.

    6. PwnageTool iOS 4.0.1

  6. Now open Terminal and use the following commands to patch PwnageTool.

    7. cd /Users/UserName/Desktop/JB
    ls -al
    mv iPhone2,1_4.0.1_8A306.bundle PwnageTool.app/Contents/Resources/FirmwareBundles/
    exit

  7. After using the above commands, your PwnageTool will be patched and the JB folder will now contain only two files i-e iOS 4.0.1 IPSW and PwnageTool (Patched)

    8. PwnageTool iOS 4.0.1

Thats it. You have successfully patched the PwnageTool with the bundles and now its ready to cook a custom IPSW of iOS 4.0.1 for iPhone 3GS (Old Bootrom). For those who don't know: Apple updated the iBoot of iPhone 3GS after 4 months of its release. Now there are two types of iPhone 3GS, one with old iBoot (359.3) and the other with new iBoot (359.3.2) version.

iPhone 3GS with old bootrom can be jailbreaked via Sn0wbreeze 1.6.x and PwnageTool 4.0x but the new bootrom is yet to be jailbreaked. iBoot is a small code snippet that runs at your iPhone startup and checks for the corruption of boot image as well as it can also detect if you are running unauthorized (jailbroken) firmware on your iPhone. Probably iBooty 4.0 is a tool with which you can bypass this firmware check as shown in the video below:

Acc. to iH8sn0w the above tethered jailbreak is only valid for those who have saved iPhone OS 3.1.2 (not iPhone OS 3.1.3) SHSH blobs. Tethered jailbreak means you have to re-jailbreak your iPhone once it looses its battery or your iPhone reboots due to any other reason. [via @iH8sn0w]

Spirit2Pwn iPhone iPod Touch
iPhone 3GS with old bootroms and iPod Touch users with non-MC model can install Spirit2Pwn through Cydia by following the steps given below:

  1. Open Cydia on your iPhone / iPod Touch jailbroken with Spirit tool.
  2. Click on the "Manage" button at the bottom.
  3. Click on the "Sources" section.
  4. Click on "Edit" button at the top left of Cydia.
  5. Click on "Add" button at the top right of Cydia.
  6. Enter "http://repo.woowiz.net" as Cydia/APT URL and click on "Add Source" button.
  7. Wait while Cydia update your sources.
  8. Thats it! Now click on the "Search" tab at the bottom and search for "Spirit2Pwn".
  9. Click on "Spirit2Pwn" and install it!
  10. Follow this guide to jailbreak iOS 4 on your iPhone / iPod Touch using Sn0wbreeze OR follow this guide to jailbreak iOS 4 on iPhone / iPod Touch using PwnageTool.
  11. Once jailbreaked. Use this guide to jailbreak iOS 4 with Ultrasn0w 0.93

AntiSpirit is another tool which allows you to jailbreak iOS 4 on Spirit'd iDevices but Spirit2Pwn is easy to install and recommended!
