You can jailbreak iOS 4.1 Beta 2 on iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G (non-MC models) with Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5. However you might not able to unlock your device with Ultrasn0w 0.93 as iOS 4.1 Beta 2 comes up with the baseband upgradation which is yet to be unlocked by iPhone Dev Team. If you have an already unlocked iPhone 3G, then stay away from this update.

Official update from iPhone Dev Team:
If you've updated to 4.1beta2 on iPhone3G or iPod2G(non-MC), you can use this redsn0w from June to jailbreak. Just point it at the 4.0 IPSW (the public one, not the developer GM one).
(Yes – point it at the 4.0 IPSW even though you're at 4.1beta2).
Don't do this if you need the ultrasn0w carrier unlock!!
Note 1: This won't hacktivate your iPhone3G – but for those with legit access to the 4.1beta2 this shouldn't matter. Please don't pirate Apple software
Note 2: If you're at 4.1beta2 you'll probably experience network problems after jailbreaking. Until a new version of redsn0w is released, you may need to rely on afc2 access (such as FunBox-like file browser programs) to manipulate your filesystem.
Note 3: This is recommended only for power users who can deal with the problems [...]

The procedure for jailbreaking iOS 4.1 Beta 2 with Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5 is exactly similar to the procedure for jailbreaking iOS 4.1 Beta 1. You can follow this step-by-step guide for jailbreaking iOS 4.0.1 Beta 2 with Redsn0w 0.9.5b5-5. Remember that this jailbreak will not hactivate your iPhone, moreover you might experience network problems after the jailbreak.

Apple has released iOS 4.1 Beta 2 (build 8B5091b) and SDK (build 10m2305a) for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G, 3G. Just like iOS 4.1 beta 1, this build of iOS is available for developers only, so if you have a registered Apple Developer account, you can download the update by signing into iPhone Dev Center.

This update counters the issues like iOS 4 slow speed on iPhone 3G and iPhone 4's repositioned proximity sensor. Please note that unlike iOS 4.1 beta 1, this update comes with a baseband upgradation. So, if you are on an unlocked iPhone, avoid updating to iOS 4.1 beta 2 otherwise your device will be locked until iPhone Dev Team releases an unlocking tool.

EasyiRecovery 2.5 has been released and is available for download. Its a major update to the previous version as now it don't require LibUSB library installed on your system to put your iPhone in recovery mode. EasyiRecovery is particularly useful for those iPhone and iPod Touch users who are stucked in recovery mode loop during the firmware restore process.

The previous version of EasyiRecovery required LibUSB installed on your system to work properly. However many Windows 7 and Vista users were not able to install the LibUSB library due to the compatibility issues. This version solves this problem and works without LibUSB library. However you will need .NET Framework 4.0 to run EasyiRecovery 2.5.

You can use EasyiRecovery to force your iPhone exit the recovery mode loop. Just incase EasyiRecovery also fails to get your iPhone out of infinite recovery mode loop, try to put the device in DFU mode and then restore the custom IPSW. If DFU mode also fails, try Recboot, its an alternative to EasyiRecovery and also fixes the iTunes 1015 error during custom IPSW restore process.

If you are an iPhone 3G owner and you have updated iOS 4.0 / iOS 4.0.1 on it, then you would be trying hard to make iOS 4 work well on your iPhone 3G. iOS 4 is by far showing poor and unsatisfactory performance on iPhone 3G. Apple support forums are already grilled by angry iPhone 3G users for numerous issue they are facing with iOS 4. Slow performance is the most common issue reported.

Here is a comedy video shared by TUAW showing an iPhone 3G experiencing various problems on iOS 4.

[via TUAW]
Above video clearly explain what's happening with iPhone 3G with iOS 4. I myself own an iPhone 3G and I faced numerous problems like slowness, apps crash, phone restarting, less battery backup, unresponsive controls etc after updating to iOS 4. Apple support forums are already grilled by angry iPhone 3G users for numerous issue they are facing with iOS 4. Slow performance is the most common issue reported.

Here is a comedy video shared by TUAW showing an iPhone 3G experiencing various problems on iOS 4.

Above video clearly explain what's happening with iPhone 3G with iOS 4. I myself own an iPhone 3G and I faced numerous problems like slowness, apps crash, phone restarting, less battery backup, unresponsive controls etc after updating to iOS 4. Finally I had to downgrade my iPhone 3G to iOS 3.1.2 and it's working fine now.

Solutions / Remedies?

First of all, if you have an iPhone 3G and you are planning to update iOS 4 on it then please do yourself a favor and save the time you would be wasting to make iOS 4 perform well on your iPhone, by NOT updating iOS 4 on your iPhone 3G. Updating iOS 4 on iPhone 3G isn't really worthy! Only new features along with numerous minor improvements you get are Folders and Improved Mailbox. Multitasking as we all know is included in the package for iPhone 3G.

If you already have updated iOS 4 on your iPhone 3G then you may try few things before downgrading OS of your phone. Hard reset your iPhone 3G couple of times, turn all unnecessary settings off, uninstall unnecessary Cydia tweaks/apps. If you are still facing problems after trying these workarounds then proceed with following guides to downgrade firmware of your iPhone 3G.

Downgrade to OS 3.1.3 / OS 3.1.2

You may downgrade your iPhone 3G to OS 3.1.3 or OS 3.1.2, there isn't much difference other than few minor bug fixes in OS 3.1.3. I downgraded my iPhone 3G to OS 3.1.2. Step by step procedure for downgrading to OS 3.1.3 is given here, and here for OS 3.1.2.

Please share your opinions about iOS 4 performance on your iPhone 3G in comments section below.

However SHSH blobs for iOS 4.0 and iOS 4.0.1 are same which can be used by using the following two methods.

You can easily save ECID SHSH blobs of your device by using Cydia or Firmware Umbrella.
To save SHSH blobs of your device using Cydia, just click on the Make my life easier, thanks! button and wait while Cydia saves your SHSH blobs on Saurik's server. Mean while you will see a message This device has a pending TSS request. Restart Cydia after sometime and you will find your SHSH blobs saved on Saurik's server.
