Unlock iPhone 3GS Through Windows

We are writing this post for those users who are on jailbroken firmware 3.0 or 3.0.1, new version of Pwnage Tool enables us to update to firmware 3.1 without altering baseband of your iPhone, for those of you who have upgraded to firmware 3.1 from iTunes but have saved your SHSH file to Cydia, you can still unlock/jailbreak but first you will have to downgrade your firmware back to 3.0 or 3.0.1. Steps To Jailbreak iPhone 3GS on Firmware 3.1 Through Windows

  1. You should have latest iTunes version, Click Here to download if you don't have it.
  2. Now connect your iPhone with your PC using USB Ports of your computer and start iTunes and sync your iPhone with your computer, iTunes will backup your iPhone data
  3. Now you have to download custom .ipsw file for you iPhone 3GS which has been generated using PwnageTool 3.1.3. Just Google "Download iPhone 3GS Custome ipsw file for Firmware 3.1" or "iPhone2,1_3.1_7C144_Custom_Restore", and you will get no.of links to download the desired .ipsw file.

    4. Update : Download Custom IPSW of Firmware 3.1 for iPhone 3GS

  4. After downloading custom .ispw file, you will need to move it to "iTunes" directory in your computer, if you don't know path of iTunes9 directory, just go to Start->Search->Files and folder and type "iTunes" and hit enter, it will show "iTunes" folder in search. Open "iTunes" folder once you find it and paste downloaded .ispw file at following location:

    C:\Documents and Settings\[Your User Name]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Update\

  5. Now you need to update/restore your iPhone with custom .ispw that you downloaded for your iPhone 3GS. Restart iTunes, it will prompt to install new 3.1 firmware, DON'T update firmware from that box, just close it. Select your device (iPhone3GS) from iTunes DEVICES tab as shown below.

  6. To restore original settings on your Apple device, press and hold left "ALT" button on the keyboard ("SHIFT" button for Windows), iTunes will give you option for Upgrade and Restore, click on "Restore" option in the iTunes and then release the "ALT/SHIFT" button. You will be prompted to select .ipsw file, just browse and select the downloaded .ipsw file and restore it as shown below

    7. Select iPhone 21_3.1_7C144_Custom_Restore firmware file

That's all! Leave the rest to iTunes :) You will see a progress bar in iTunes showing upgrade/restore process progress, if it's taking long, give it some time, the process takes some time, don't interrupt in middle of process as it may harm your iPhone device. After completion of process you should have a jailbroken iPhone 3GS running on firmware 3.1.

iPhone 3GS Jailbreak on Firmware 3.1

One thing which should be in your knowledge is that PwnageTool 3.1.3 is only for Mac OS X users. Windows users should follow the instructions posted here to jailbreak and unlock iPhone 3GS running with firmware 3.1.

Steps To Unlock / Jailbreak your iPhone 3GS running on Firmware 3.1 with PwnageTool 3.1.3

  1. You should have latest iTunes version, Click Here to download if you don't have it.
  2. Start iTunes and sync your iPhone with your computer
  3. Download latest PwnageTool 3.1.3 and original iPhone OS 3.1 firmware for iPhone 3GS (Download links are given at the end) [Also put these files on your desktop, so PwnageTool could find them easily]
  4. After downloading PwnageTool 3.1.3, start it and select iPhone 3GS from device options

    5. Jailbreak iPhone 3GS with PwnageTool 3.11

  5. Right after that, PwnageTool will automatically detect appropriate Firmware version for your device as shown below.


  6. Click on "No" when PwnageTool asks you “Do you have an iPhone contract that would activate normally through iTunes?”, after this PwnageTool will create a custom jailbreaked .ispw file for your iPhone 3GS as shown in series of images given below.




  7. Now you need to update/restore your iPhone with custom .ipsw file PwnageTool just created. Start iTunes and select your device (iPhone3GS) from iTunes DEVICES tab.

  8. iREB is available for both Windows and MAC OS environments, download link is given at the end. Tool runs on both iPhone & iPhone 3G with Firmware 3.1, and also on iPod touch 1G. Following steps will help you to use this tool:

Start iTunes and Put iPhone in Recovery Mode

After starting iTunes, you need to put your iPhone in Recovery Mode; to do so, hold Home and Power button in your iPhone simultaneously and release Power button after a while (10 seconds approx). Keep on holding Home button, till you see following error message appearing in iTunes stating.

"iTune has detected an iPhone in Recovery Mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes"

Close iTunes and Start iREB

Now close iTunes and start iREB, following interface will open.

Now select your device and wait till you get a RED or WHITE screen on your device.

Start iTunes and Restore Original Settings on Your iPhone/iPod

Now start iTunes again and select your device (iPhone/iPod) from iTunes DEVICES tab.

To restore original settings on your Apple device, press and hold left "ALT" button on the keyboard ("SHIFT" button for Windows), iTunes will give you option for Upgrade and Restore, click on "Restore" option in the iTunes and then release the "ALT/SHIFT" button. Select .ipsw file and restore it.

That's all! your problem should be resolved now and you won't be seeing these error messages.

Pre-Requisites

  1. iPhone 3G or iPhone 3Gs with 3.1 firmware
  2. Latest version of iTunes, Click Here to download iTunes 9, if you don’t have it

NOTE: The service is only for AT&T customers.

Enable IPCC updateds in iTunes

After ensuring pre-requisites, we first need to enable IPCC updates in iTunes 9. Follow following steps to do so:

Windows 32 Bit and 64 Bit (Windows 7/XP/Wista)

  1. Close iTunes
  2. Go to Start -> Run, type CMD and hit enter
  3. For 32 Bit windows run this command in command prompt C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1, and for 64 Bit windows run this command: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\iTunes.exe” /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

Command Prompt For Enabling IPCC In iTunesHint: Select required command mentioned in Step3 above and press CTRL+C to copy it, then right click on command prompt to PASTE

MAC OS X

  1. Close iTunes
  2. Open Terminal (Applications > Utilities > Terminal)
  3. Now run this command and hit enter: defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

Download updated IPCC file and update iPhone with it

After enabling IPCC updates in iTunes, we need to download updated/modified IPCC file and update iPhone with it. Follow these steps to do so:

  1. Download updated .IPCC file (ATT_US.ipcc). Download link given at the end.
  2. Plug in your iPhone with your computer
  3. Start iTunes
  4. Now press Alt button on keyboard and click the "Update" button, for Windows press Shift button instead of ALT. iTunes will ask for path of IPCC file
  5. Browse to where you saved the IPCC you downloaded
  6. Select this file and click Choose (For MAC), and click Open for Windows

  7. Once the update is complete, reboot your iPhone

  2. After you have jailbroken your iPhone, Go to Cydia on your iPhone and Search for Fuzzyband and then install this application
