Next version of Android will be called Froyo, said by Erick Tseng, Senior Product Manager of Android in an interview with Engadget. Froyo shorts for “frozen yogurt”, the name fits nicely in line with zany naming scheme other names delivered so far including Cupcakes, Donuts, and Eclairs.

Google’s first branded phone named as Nexus One has just been released, and the talks about next version of Google phone are already in the air. People at Mobile01 managed to get their hands on few photos of Motorola Shadow, which acc to them would be next version of Nexus One/Google Android phone. Nexus Two, as they are calling it will have a sliding QWERTY keyboard with multitouch screen.

Within the first week of Nexus One’s release, Paul at Modaco forums has managed to release the first ever Android 2.1 custom ROM for Nexus One which packs a custom kernel, and includes busybox, nano 2.09, parted and sqlite tools, Wireless Tethering option (Yay!), titanium backup and more. Note that this custom ROM includes tethering hack of Nexus One which was previously available as a part of add-ons pack for Nexus One.

Even before the release of Nexus One, Paul O’Brien at modaco forums managed to root Google Nexus. However after its release, bootloaders were locked by Google Nexus One team which was later unlocked by the same person via bootloader’s hidden command. And now, just within week of the release of Nexus One, folks at XDA forums has hacked it again to enable wireless and wired tethering option in Android 2.1 by installing an addon over the top of the existing Android 2.1 firmware.

Remember when Google Nexus One was first rooted even before its official release providing you the complete access of Nexus One file system. But now Google Nexus One team has blocked bootloaders on the retail devices but fortunately Paul O’Brien at Modaco forums, same person who rooted Nexus One for the first time, has managed to unlock Nexus One bootloader on retail devices too.
