As of this writing, the latest public firmware update is iOS 8.4.1. As we have reported before, Apple has stopped signing iOS 8.4. Now, many of our readers are asking if it’s possible to jailbreak iOS 8.4.1. This post will clarify the status of the iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak once and for all.
So is it possible to jailbreak iOS 8.4.1?
To put it bluntly, no, you can’t jailbreak iOS 8.4.1. Regardless if you use tools like TaiG jailbreak or PP Jailbreak, jailbreaking iOS 8.4.1 is NOT POSSIBLE. Such jailbreak tools will only work with iOS 8.1.3 to iOS 8.4. With iOS 8.4.1, Apple has effectively killed the exploits used by both jailbreak tools.
But it’s coming sometime in the future, right?
There’s a bit of hope here because Pangu group has demonstrated an exploit that works with iOS 8.4.1. However, it won’t make sense for Pangu to release the jailbreak now and only have Apple patch it once iOS 9 is released. It’s safe to say that jailbreak teams would rather wait for iOS 9 to be released because chances are high that the exploit used for iOS 8.4.1 will work on iOS 9. So to answer the question, probably not!
I guess I’ll just have to downgrade my iDevice and re-jailbreak..
In case you’ve missed it, we’ve mentioned that Apple has stopped signing iOS 8.4, the last remaining firmware that was being signed prior to iOS 8.4.1. Unfortunately, that shipped has now sailed because downgrading prior to iOS 8.4.1 is not possible.
So, what now?
If you are on iOS 8.4.1, the best course of action is to just wait. Jailbreak teams seem to be preparing for iOS 9, so a jailbreak may not that far behind. iOS 9 is expected to be released on September 16 and hopefully, it won’t be long before the jailbreak follows.
As a general rule of thumb, always assume that firmware updates will kill your jailbreak; unless of course, it is indicated in the news that the update is jailbreak-safe. Hopefully, this clarifies all things about the current status of iOS 8.4.1 jailbreak.Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
