There have been plenty of buzzes that Apple will reveal the next-gen iPad and iPad mini later this month. As widely expected, Apple just sent out the invitations for a special media event which will be taking place on October 22. The iPad event is slated to be held at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, at 10:00 AM Pacific or 1:00 PM Eastern.
As you can see from the picture, the invitation comes with the tagline “We still have a lot to cover.“ While it is quite sure Apple will announce the next generation full-sized iPad and iPad mini during the media event, it is still unclear if other devices will make it into the announcements. Perhaps, Apple might also have some announcements for the MacBook and Mac.
According to the ongoing rumors, the iPad 5 will feature a design similar to the iPad mini, with narrower bezels in portrait mode. As for its internals, it is rumored that it will sport a variant of the A7 chip with 2GB RAM, an 8MP camera, and like the iPhone 5s, a Touch ID fingerprint scanner. As per usual, it is expected to be lighter and thinner than the current iPad.
As for the iPad mini 2, it would be bold for Apple not to release a model that doesn't have Retina Display, so it's safe to expect that it will. It may also come with an A7 chip with 1GB RAM, 8MP camera and possibly a Touch ID scanner. In order to accommodate the Retina Display, the iPad mini 2 might be slightly thicker than the current gen model. Both iPads are expected to come in three new colors: gold, silver and space gray.
