As soon as Apple wrapped up yesterday's iPhone event, the company seeded iOS 7 GM to developers. Apparently, this has been a cue for Evad3rs dev team to start "actively looking at iOS 7", which consequently put them into a "reconnaissance phase where we are identifying which exploits we have still work." You got that right, the quest for the iOS 7 untethered jailbreak has already commenced.
Planetbeing has been sending a series of tweets informing his followers about the progress of the jailbreak. Based on his most recent tweet, it looks like the Evad3rs has managed to achieve unsigned userland code execution.
Achieved unsigned userland code execution with some of our stuff in reserve. Now we have a good platform for poking the kernel.
This definitely counts as good news but know that this merely put the Evad3rs dev team in a good position to poke into the kernel. It's safe to say that it is still a long way before an iOS 7 untethered jailbreak is possible for all devices, including the recently announced iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. But still, one can't help but feel hopeful since this is the Evad3rs dev team we are talking about. The chances of them pulling this off should be quite high.
