Things have been quiet on the jailbreak front as of late. Ever since Apple released iOS 6.1.3, it marked the end for the evasi0n jailbreak. Add to the fact that major jailbreak groups, such as evad3rs, announced that they have no plans of releasing a jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3 / iOS 6.1.4. They would rather wait for iOS 7 to drop rather than waste the exploit on a soon-to-be previous generation firmware. Recently, a respected member of the jailbreak community claimed that he has the binaries for the iOS 6.1.3 untethered jailbreak.
Hacker Winocm has tweeted that he got the iOS 6.1.3 untethered jailbreak binaries in his hands. However, he admitted it still needs some work.
Before you get all too excited, the jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3 won’t support all devices. Even the iPhone 4 version barely works.
So why would anyone want an iOS 6.1.3 untethered jailbreak when iOS 7 will drop in the coming weeks? At this point, there is still no assurance that we’ll get the iOS 7 untethered jailbreak (or even tethered) in a timely manner. The iOS 6.1.3 untethered jailbreak will be useful for folks who are not too keen with losing their jailbreak by not immediately jumping on the iOS 7 ship. This will make them have the latest iOS 6 firmware without losing their precious jailbreak. Of course, there are folks as well that can’t update to iOS 7 due to hardware constraints.
Of course, this isn’t the first time that we’ve someone is working on the iOS 6.1.3 untethered jailbreak. The creators of the tool UnthreadedJB claimed that they’re working on the iOS 6.1.3 jailbreak as well.
So what do you think? Do you want an iOS 6.1.3 untethered jailbreak?
