While there are a few jailbreak groups that the community has chosen to follow such the Dev-Team and Evad3rs, there are other groups that just pop out of nowhere. Today, we have a fairly interesting and strange development for you. A new jailbreak group called UnthreadedJB has just released an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1, which is also called UnthreadedJB.
Aside from the fact that the UnthreadedJB seems to have come out of nowhere, another thing that makes this development rather strange is the scope of the jailbreak. As mentioned, this new tool is an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 which was released way back in March 2012. So in a sense, UnthreadedJB is the first ever tool to provide an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 because the Absinthe jailbreak was available only for iOS 5.1.1.
Another thing that makes this release bizarre is that UnthreadedJB only supports the CDMA iPhone 4 and can only be used by Linux users. In order to prove the legitimacy of the jailbreak, the group has posted a video demonstrating the jailbreak tool.
If you are going to the UnthreadedJB website where you can also download the tool, it’s easy to see why people would find it hard to believe that this group is legit. I’m not sure if it’s intentional but the website just doesn’t look pleasing to the eye and there’s the wanton amount of misspellings, which makes me think that these guys are actually trying to be funny. Makes one wonder if the name UnthreadedJB is actually a misspelling of the word UntetheredJB.
However, there numerous folks on Twitter said that this untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1 actually works including the prominent hacker @winocm.
According to the developers, they are also working on a jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3 / 6.1.4, which is a good thing because the Evad3rs dev team explicitly said that they won’t be working on a jailbreak for the said firmware.
What do you think of this untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.1?
