As you may all know already, Apple has already pushed the iOS 6.1.3 firmware update. Like clockwork, the Cupertino company pushed a new software build for the Apple TV set-top box, the Apple TV 5.2.1. However, just like with iOS 6.1.3, Apple TV 5.2.1 has also plugged the vulnerabilities that the Evasi0n exploit used. Fortunately, we've just learned that Seas0nPass has been updated to jailbreak Apple TV 5.2.1. However, it comes with a significant catch.
FireCore Dev-Team just announced over Twitter that Seas0npass has been updated and now can jailbreak Apple TV 5.2.1. Since there is no untethered jailbreak beyond iOS 6.1.3 yet, the jailbreak for 5.2.1 is TETHERED.
Seas0nPass provides a TETHERED jailbreak of the 2nd gen Apple TV running the latest 5.2.1 (iOS 6.1.3 - 10B329a) software that was released on March 19th, 2013.
Aside from plugging the exploits that Evasi0n utilized, 5.2.1 firmware also features a new Hulu Plus app. With this new Hulu app experience, you will be able to "even easier to find your favorite current season TV episodes and discover a new favorite show." If you really want to experience the new Hulu Plus app, then go ahead and update your Apple TV to version 5.2.1. This is, of course, provided you are ready to lose your untethered jailbreak. But at least, you are assured that you can still jailbreak, albeit a tethered one.
As per usual, the jailbreak is only applicable to Apple TV 2. If you have an Apple TV 3, we're sorry to tell you that the device is still not supported. Also, keep in mind it could take a long time before we see another untethered jailbreak. Unless you really want to get your hands on the new Hulu Plus app, I suggest you stay away from 5.2.1.
