If you have been keeping an eye on the world of tech, then you'll know that Samsung has already shown their trump card for this year, the Galaxy S IV. Now, everyone is wondering what Apple has in store for the remainder of the year. We all know that a new iPhone is coming this year, but which one? The most prevalent rumors is that the Cupertino company will release an update to the iPhone 5, which is believed to be the iPhone 5S. According to a new report, the iPhone 5S is set to be released this third quarter of the year with some expected upgrades.
This new report came from the DigiTimes, a publication known for reporting tons of Apple rumors, although their track record leaves much to be desired. As reported by DigiTimes:
Components for the next-generation iPhone will start shipping at the end of May with the new smartphone to have a chance of showing up in the third quarter, according to sources from the upstream supply chain. The sources pointed out that if the components are all shipped smoothly, manufacturers should be able to deliver the new iPhones to retail channels in 1-2 weeks for them to be ready to sell in the third quarter.
DigiTimes added that the upcoming iPhone won't be a major upgrade to the current gen iPhone. Instead, like the iPhone 4S to the iPhone 4, the new iPhone will be a slightly enhanced version of the iPhone 5. What are these slight enhancements? The iPhone 5S is said to feature a more powerful processor chip and an improved camera. According to some reports, despite the fact that the iPhone 5S will only have slight enhancements, it will have at least one "killer feature." Back when the iPhone 4S was released, it's killer app was of course, Siri.
As mentioned, the iPhone 5S is expected to drop this 3rd quarter, which seems to fall in line with last year's iPhone 5 cycle. [via iJailbreak]Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
