While it's a completely a legal act, jailbreaking is something that Apple isn't really crazy about. So while they can't exactly sue people for jailbreaking their iDevices, the company has proven over time that it is serious with crippling the act altogether. That's why with each new iteration of iOS, jailbreak hackers find themselves having a tough time cracking Apple's mobile operating system. Just take for example with the state of the untethered iOS 6 jailbreak. As of now, the status of the much-anticipated jailbreak is quite grim. And now, it seems that with the next major update which iOS 6.1, things are not about to get any easier, jailbreak wise.
Stefan Esser aka i0n1c, who's no stranger to the jailbreak community just tweeted that the Cupertino company has been stepping up their game as of late. This is especially true with the new firmware which is just around the corner, iOS 6.1. Just last week, Apple seeded iOS 6.1 beta 4 to developers which word on the street is, the final beta before the inevitable public release. However before you rush and update your device to a shiny new iOS version, i0n1c warns people that iOS 6.1 adds "tougher protection" which is always bad for jailbreakers.
There must have been some change of guard at Apple.iOS6.1 adds again tougher protections although public JB community hasn't broken iOS6 yet
So there you go, as expected Apple may have considerably beefed up their security in iOS 6.1. This is not exactly the best news to receive especially when jailbreak hackers has yet to find the exploits that will pave the way for an untethered iOS 6 jailbreak for all devices. So it is safe to assume that things are going to get tougher by the time iOS 6.1 drops.
To chime in here, I think jailbreaking is becoming a dying art. Over time, we see the relentless cat and mouse game between jailbreak developers and Apple. However with iOS 6, it seems that Apple currently has the upper hand in the game. With each iOS iteration, it is becoming a lot tougher to jailbreak. On top of that, Apple is slowly adding more features that make some jailbreak tweaks irrelevant. Therefore, I won't be surprised if the number of jailbreak app and tweak developers will dwindle. With fewer jailbroken devices, there are just not much incentives in making cool jailbreak tweaks. Of course, there will still be a lot of apps and tweaks which won't be allowed in iOS but with Apple stepping up security, many people would feel that it's not worth the hustle or the wait.
However, that is just a negative way of looking at things. There are still folks who are still working behind the scenes that aim to bring us the highly-anticipated untethered iOS 6 jailbreak. Who knows? MuscleNerd and co. or Pod2g might surprise us with a breakthrough iOS 6 jailbreak solution as they tend to keep these sort of information under the radar. At this time of desperate need, they will be needing all the help and support that the jailbreak community can give.
