If you are someone who have been waiting for the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak, then at this point you are likely less hopeful because of how things are going on. This is especially true if you own a newer device such as an iPhone 5 or iPad mini. According to famed jailbreak developer P0sixninja, the state of the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak is "grim" but he's working on something bigger and better. More details after the jump.
As of now, the only jailbreak available for iOS 6 is only limited to A4-based devices which include the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch 4G. The jailbreak is also of the tethered variety which is definitely a deal-breaker for most folks. While the iPhone 5 and iPad mini have been jailbroken, they are what is referred to as a "Failbreak" because it is only accessible for those who have a developer's account. Because it relies on copyrighted files from Apple, distributing it for public consumption will lead to inevitable lawsuits. With every new firmware iteration and hardware, jailbreaking becomes more of a gargantuan task for your friendly neighborhood hackers.
As if things isn't quite depressing already in the jailbreak front, Joshua Hill better known as P0sixninja, sent out a tweet stating that the current status of the iPhone 5 and iOS 6 untethered jailbreak is quite grim. He then added that despite this, he is working on something bigger and that a few people share any information with him anymore.
The current status of an iPhone5 jailbreak is grim. I'm working on something bigger and few people share with me anymore
So what exactly is P0sixninja working on that can be bigger than the iPhone 5 jailbreak? Could it be a userland jailbreak that will easily jailbreak all iOS 6 supported device? At this point, your guess is only as good as mine. For sure, we are bound to learn more information about this secret project of P0sixninja.
As for the bit that people aren't sharing information with him anymore, one can only assume that the most logical explanation is that because he left Chronic-Dev Team. While he says that the current status of the iOS 6 untethered jailbreak is grim, it is quite possible that other jailbreak developers may be working on something that could make the famed hacker say otherwise. By not being involved with any hacker collective, it is quite possible that he doesn't have enough perspective when it comes to the true current state of the iOS 6 jailbreak.
Interesting enough, Grant Paul also known as chpwn replied to P0sixninja's tweet with a brief, “Grim, eh?” At this point, it would be safe to assume that the road to the true iOS 6 untethered jailbreak is still long and arduous. However, we can trust that there are folks that are doing their best to bring the latest jailbreak to the community.
