Undoubtedly, one of the coolest that you can have when you jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch is the ability to install third-party tweaks and apps. These jailbreak tweaks and apps have the potential to provide additional functionalities that just make your device much easier and more intuitive to use. Here at Jaxov, we surely enjoy bringing to our readers' attention the best jailbreak tweaks and apps available, whether they are extremely useful or just plain interesting. Today, we have another new featured jailbreak tweak which we think is surely worth your time.
When iOS 5 was released, iOS notifications received a major overhaul. Aside from having the Notifications Center, banner notifications were introduced which was miles ahead better than the old, intrusive pop-up notification bubbles. However, the banner notifications are only useful when you are actually using your device or looking at your screen. It is quite easy to miss your notifications if you are not looking at your screen like when you are driving or listening to music. A brief tone alert won't help you for the most part. There are cases as well that you check your device for notifications only to find out that it is not that important. With this new jailbreak tweak available in Cydia, you won't have to deal with such annoyances anymore.
The name of today's featured jailbreak tweak is TitleSpeak by author iHackerMe. Once you have installed this tweak, along with displayed banner popup when you receive a notification, a Siri-like voice will also read out the alert. This is especially helpful because you will be informed regarding your alerts even if you are not looking at the screen of your device. If it is an alert which is of urgent nature you can attend to it immediately. On the other hand, if it is simply a trivial alert, then you can just ignore it without wasting your time by checking your device.
Unfortunately, TitleSpeak is not without its flaws. The tweak is only able to read the title line of the alert and nothing more. But still, if it is an alert from Mail or iMessage, you can easily tell the name of the contact who's trying to get in touch with you. In addition to that, there is no configuration settings for you to tinker with in order to customize your experience. It would be nice if you could configure which app would invoke the voice alert. You can't even disable the tweak without having to uninstall it or disable it via MobileSubstrate. It would be downright annoying if all your alerts are being read out at all times.
TitleSpeak Cydia tweak works on all devices running iOS 5 and up. Just to clear things up, you don't need to have Siri installed in order to take advantage of this tweak. Despite its flaws, TitleSpeak is a solid app which can really enhance your banner notifications, although it could definitely use some tweaking. TitleSpeak is available in Cydia via the BigBoss repo and it will cost you nothing. That's right it's FREE, so give it a try and see how you like it.
In case you don't know you will need to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPad touch before you can even hope to install TitleSpeak.
