When it comes to social media networks, there is pretty much no one who will argue that Facebook is the largest one out there. But of course, everyone and their mothers have a Facebook account. Judging by how popular this behemoth of a social network is, there are even users who would equate their internet usage to opening and checking their Facebook account. It is clear that Facebook is pretty much unstoppable at this point, and things are only bound get better for Zuckerberg and Co. The social network has been floating around 900 million+ active users for quite some time now, and it is only a matter of time before it breaks the billion mark. As it turned out, that time is now.
The news came from Facebook CEO himself, Mark Zuckerberg, as he delivered his own personal message in which he acknowledged the fact that more than one billions users have been actively using Facebook each. As Zuckerberg writes, "This morning, there are more than one billion people using Facebook actively each month." Perhaps the most interesting about this landmark achievement is the fact that out of the one billions total users, about three fifths or roughly 600 million of them are mobile users. This is a testament at just how advanced our mobile gadgetries have evolved over the years and just how reliant we have become on these portable devices.
Of course, nobody is more excited about this news than Facebook's found himself. He thanked the entire Facebook userbase for all of their continued support for the social media platform. According to Zuckerberg's own words:
If you're reading this: thank you for giving me and my little team the honor of serving you.
Helping a billion people connect is amazing, humbling and by far the thing I am most proud of in my life.
I am committed to working every day to make Facebook better for you, and hopefully together one day we will be able to connect the rest of the world too.
This is of course a feat which is never been achieved before, so what is it like to have one billion active users? If you are a sort of a number or just like stats in general, it's quite sure that you are interest as to how Facebook is doing as of this moment. According to Facebook, their giant servers have been storing a total of 1.13 trillion Likes since it was launched back in 2004. The number of people who was connected by Facebook is now 140.3 billion, 219 billion photos have been uploaded, 17 billion geo-tagged photos which include check-ins, 62.6 million songs have been hosted and have been played a total of 22 billion times.
This is no doubt a landmark achievement, not just for Facebook but in the digital age in general. With the way things are going, it looks like Facebook is not going to slow down anytime soon. As far as social networking websites go, Facebook is still unchallenged. [via RedmondPie]Contact Us for News Tips, Corrections and Feedback
