13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display Unveiled – Here’s What You Need to Know

If you have been keeping up with tech-related news, you should know that today is quite a big day for Apple. Apple has held the special media event which took place at the California Theatre in San Jose, CA. The Cupertino-based company announced a lot of new hardware for the special media event, and one of the first devices that was announced was the new 13-inch MacBook Pro With Retina Display. As you might have guessed from its namesake, the standout feature of this new 13-inch MacBook Pro is the Retina Display. The new MacBook Pro is capable of displaying resolutions up to 2560 x 1600, which is far superior to that of any other notebooks from other manufacturers. To put things into perspective, its display offers nearly twice the resolution of 1080p HDTV screens. It is twice the resolution of the previous MacBook Pro with 29% higher contrast ratio, 75% reduced glare, and 300 nits brightness. Take a 27-inch display and compare it to the new MacBook Pro and you'll find that the latter has the higher display resolution. That is impressive by any means and will surely please those who seek extra visual fidelity for their notebooks.

Apparently, the display resolution of the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display isn't the only specification that has been improved. The new model is 0.75-inch thin and weighs 3.57 pounds, that is 1 whole pound lighter than the previous MacBook Pro. It also includes a FaceTime HD camera capable of recording 720p videos, along with the standard stereo mics and speakers. Like the 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display, this new 13-inch MacBook Pro utilizes a flash-only storage system and no optical disc drive. Instead of having a dedicated graphics card, it includes onboard integrated graphics, an Intel HD 4000.

As for the processors, customers can choose between two CPU chips, a dual-core 2.5GHz Core i5 or a dual-core 2.9GHz Core-i7. Both of which are of the Ivy Bridge microarchitecture. As for the storage capacity, it starts with 128GB and increases up to 768GB. All models of the new 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display comes with 8GB of RAM, which is definitely a good thing for those have been wanting some extra oomph for their notebooks. Apple has also claimed that the battery life can last up to 7 hours.

But all of these impressive specs do not come cheap. The base 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina Display (dual-core Core-i5, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage) will have you shell-out $1699, that is $200 more expensive than the 13-inch MacBook Pro without the fancy Retina Display. The high-end model (dual-core 2.9GHz Core-i7, 8GB RAM, 768GB Storage) will set you back $1999.
